Thought I'd post an update blog-style as there are a lot more words available to me than in a status update!
Autumn Moon, I didn't have rotator cuff repair. I had a frozen shoulder (google "adhesive capsulitis") that was, according to the knee-and-shoulder-specialist surgeon, one of the worst he'd ever seen. That probably explains why 3+ months of non-invasive therapy didn't work. Three little holes in my shoulder enabled them to go in, cut slits in the capsule (sort of like making slits in a too-tight rubber band to loosen it), scrape some bone spurs off my collarbone where it meets the shoulder and manipulate my arm while I was under. Arthroscopic surgery is amazing! Two weeks-plus after surgery, I'm still in rehab but things are going well. I'm finally able to move my arm with only minor discomfort in all but two directions and those are slowly (and painfully) coming along.
I'm off the narcotics, which is good. I have a weird physiology. The first one they gave me was an opiate that didn't knock me on my ass as expected, it just made me stupid. However, it depresses the respiratory system and I had to sleep sitting up, meaning not a lot of sleep. The second one, a non-scheduled narcotic, didn't do a damned thing. Since I can deal with the pain during the day, I'm now just on a sleeping pill and got the first good night's sleep in months last night.
The physical therapist expects me to be in rehab for another 2-3 weeks at the most. I seem to have masochistic tendencies and am doing all sorts of exercises on my own, so that's hastening things. (And gee, that little healing spell I did before surgery? Gotta think that has something to do with it, too!)
Y'all have been busy in my absence! Over 400 entries? I'll never get to them all. So just let me say welcome to all the newbies, and a huge :thankyou: to Droghon, Tana & Spinney for taking care of things while I was gone. I'll still be a little AWOL for the next week or so as I catch up at my desk & around the house, do my self-inflicted torture and make trips to the PT but I'll be around a little more. I missed this place!
