  1. Hello everyone! I need some advice when it comes to connecting with a familiar, I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to calling a familiar to you so I haven't had any luck there. If any of you have been successful in aquiring a familiar of some sort, I would be very grateful for some advice. I understand that finding and bonding with a familiar is a very personal thing and something I have to do entirely by myself, but any small tips or tricks are appreciated! :D /WoodlandWitch
  2. That's just a working title. Did you know that black cats and dogs are super hard for shelters to re-home? No-one wants them: they languish in these facilities for years, unwanted, looked over, bypassed. Superstition may have a part to play, ignorance, or maybe they're just not seen as likeable as a more colourful critter. I've been thinking about this for a while, I wish that message could reach other pagans and witches, people who won't have the kinds of superstitious or ignorant feelings about black animals. Black cats and dogs do represent a part of our folklore and mythic history. They are woven into our stories. It would be great if more pagans and witches were aware that we could advocate for these unwanted critters in our community (I use that term loosely). Do you have a black cat or dog? Have you had a black cat or dog? Would you be more likely to intentionally adopt a black cat or dog being aware that no-one else wants them? Please let other pagans know that black cats and dogs need advocates, and homes. Me, I love black cats. My first cat was a black cat. I'll never forget her. Also please feel free to post pictures of black cats and dogs!
  3. The day before yesterdey I was taking care of my plants when I realized that was a dead collared dove under one of my pines. The poor animal has just died because it's corpse did not yet have rigor mortis. I decided to collect some of its parts in order to use them in crafts of soul flying. As I usually do when I found out a dead animal witch parts I use on my rites, I gave thanks to the dove for its parts and I wished her a good journey to the Other Side. In the las 5 years I had some difficult times (My glaucoma got worse, I discovered that my parents are not the kind people that I thought, I moved to another city, etc ...) and my brain blocked some emotions in order to manage a lot of suffering. Maybe I wanted to pretend be more strong than I really was... Well, while I was collecting the parts of the dove (wings, feet, feathers, head and heart) I had a feeling I had never experienced before while I was collecting, as if the spirit of the dove spoke directly to my heart, like a gentle loving touch. I felt as if a dam were breaking inside of me and all the tears I represed for a long time flowed down my face. It was refreshing. Maybe this can sound odd, but it's true. And I'n considering to aksing the spirit of that dove to join me in the Arte as an ally, a familiar. I would like to know your opinion about that matter, please. I have a baby souldoll as a familiar but I never recruited a dead animal's soul as a familiar before.
  4. Lately I have been receiving more and more impressions from spirits, and I think I have to set up one more altar dedicated exclusively to familiar spirits. The altar I have now is the classical altar described in occidental grimoires. It is a general one, where I connect with the so-called planetary spirits, Angels and other spirits who govern our world. Together with the new altar I have to provide a whole set of new robes and tools. It will require quite some work but I have this strong feeling that if this will be done good, new feelings, communications and experiences will make me grow more!
  5. I have two cats that act in conjunction with each other as my familiars. While I am casting, they do some weird things- such as play with my altar cloth, jump up on the altar while I'm working on craft, etc. I had always wondered why cats do this and had decided to a little research. My findings were: Cats think that if you stare at something for too long, they think you're stuck and they try to "free" you. This makes sense as to why cats stand for awareness. They keep you grounded and in the earthly plane. It's always good to have a cat around for this reason. While they do the stupid, sometimes enraging things, they only mean the best for you. Mine are always present when I'm doing research on magic for my craft or when I'm performing it and always try to break my focus a few times. There are many other reasons why cats are good for us. According to some, cats are an omen of weather. If they stare out the window all day, it could mean that rain is coming. If they have their back to the fire (or in my case, the heater) it could mean a cold snap is coming. Black cats are often a symbol of death, based off a Roman soldier who killed a black cat in Egypt and was then killed by a mob of angry locals. So, be sure your familiars are very loved. Whether they be a cat or any other creature, they're important to your craft.
  6. I have been battling the issue of feeling useless if a spell does not work. For the past couple months I've focused very intently on increasing my results and the power of my familiar. And things were going pretty strong, until a shift happened. I had sent my familiar on a task to return some lost property, and my big ego told me that this should be a simple task. We had done more impossible things in the past... why not? Days passed and the property had not returned. A feeling of weakness and uselessness keeps creeping into my mind. What is a witch that can't do a simple spell? I fight projecting this onto my familiar, seeing it as his failure as much as mine. I fight being angry with him, because even though it is my issue, I want to blame someone else. Really, this happens. Every witch goes through a dry spell (no pun intended). Sometimes, or more often than not, a spell won't happen until you forget about it (such as what the chaotes say), or at least until it isn't the main thought in your mind... Or really it could be you just need a break. It happens. Could be cosmic, could be mental. So a note to all who go through this also... don't beat yourself up. It happens.
