  1. I've recently started learning about oracle cards and currently I am trying to bond with my Clair De Lune Lenormand oracle deck. Right now to familiarize myself with these cards I've only been doing two card readings. This post is about the very small session I did for myself yesterday in regards to my current relationship with my boyfriend whom I live with. The first question I asked was for the cards to define my current relationship with my boyfriend. For this I drew the heart and the whip. The heart signifies what you would expect: love which I take as a direct representation of us. The whip signifies stress and repetition. I do agree with this as a general whole we've both been very stressed in all areas of our lives both personally as there have been a lot of stressful shifts but also with each other. Things have been a bit more tense than usual due to the stressful factors in our lives and we have been having a bit of a bout with repetition, doing the same exact routine every day without change or confronting anything that's been bothering us. My second and final question was what we should focus on right now. When I drew my cards I got the house and the bear. The house could represent our physical apartment that we share but I think that since we've lived together for awhile now, despite not having kids or being matrimonially binding to one another I would consider us to have developed a familial relationship to one another. The bear symbolizes protection, nurturing, and strength. With that in mind I feel like the cards are telling me that we need to focus on protecting what we currently have built between the two of us, also that we need to strengthen our bond. I think by being more attentive to one another's needs we would be successful with that. Overall I feel like this reading was a success despite being it being so short and sweet. I feel like my energy was pretty in tune to the reading, I also shared my reading with my boyfriend after for verification to see what he thought, figuring it's only fair since he is one of the subjects in the reading this time around. He also found it to be accurate.
  2. As you surely know, philosophy has been alongside what can be understood as "spiritual realm" from the beginning of thought other than religious. Philosophy, as we know, began in ancient Greece (specifically Athens, circa V. b.c.e.) and there are several topics as the order of kosmos/nature/the world/universe and what anthropoligists had stated as sympathetic magic (the relationship of everything no matter how far one thing is from the other and their intimate characteristics, to say something brief). This have been traced from what Hegel (XIX c. German philosopher) called "the pre-socratics" (before Socrates, the main philosopher in Plato's dialogues). Known examples are the Pythagoreans (from whom we take the pentagram form and magical standpoint). They where issued as a religious sect and they thought numbers and music as the intrinsic structure of nature (from planets to plants for example). Other were the "sages" that used aenygmata to configure (as riddles) their knowledge such as the sphinx in King Oedipus (Sophocles tragedy). The relationship between these riddles and the oracle's aenygma are purposedly close. Other after Socrates or at the moment where the Cynics (that had their own sympathy practices) and the Stoics (they had a totally constructed astrological viewpoint in relationship with the idea of destiny, the heimarmene "all-things chained", also a goddess, Ἑιμαρμενη). There is a long story from antiquity and to make it short fot the purposes of this post, regarding the occult, in Reinassance Plato's texts where discovered alongside what was then called the Corpus Hermeticum. Ficino was the translator of the texts. There was so much interest in magic at the time (Agrippa is a contemporary) that, guess with manuscrptis where translated first... Plato was of course placed last because there was the belief that the Corpus Hermeticum texts where written at the moment of before the biblical Penthateuc (Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus and Deteuronomy) and Moses himself as its traditional author was inspired by the Corpus. Of course, historical account place the texts drafting in antiquity and used by Gnostics. The Corpus served as inspiration for what magic was understood by people as Agrippa, in a different way as witchcraft. What does this has to do with philosophy? Well, Plato's dialogues translations. They took Plato's ideas to structure their perspective on reality and that influence is called Neo-Platonism. Hermeticism and Neo-Platonism with a touch of gnostic ideas are the same. An example is the tractate about love by Ficino as a commentary to Plato's dialogue Banquet discoursing on it as the most powerful form of magic. You can imagine the influence of the texts and neo-platonism within Reinassance and then XVIIIth c. in France with people as Eitella (Tarot most intriguing and creative person structuring an occult perspective on the deck at the time including a kabbalistic context). Lets remember that some of these Reinassance philosophers (Pico della Mirandola, for example) studied Kabbalah with rabbis. There was a Christian Kabbalah (for all these neo-platonics where Christian -maybe Pico not at all- and Hermeticism was the esoteric part of christendom including elizabethian court -non Catholic- with John Dee and others). It coud be said that Neo-Patonism is the backgrond of XIX c. Occult Philosophy or esoteric movements until today. But witchcraft survived, as we all know, in the lore. Most of these hermetic magicians and alchemists had no interest or really few in what can be known as low witchcraft or magic. Witchcraft stands for common people, sometimes not instructed, that where victims of abusive and violent conducts by people with "mundane" power, such as aristocrats and the bourgeoisie (Middle Ages, for example. I would like to recommend Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici, if somewone want to read it I can share it joyfully). This we can see in Aradia beautiful text. So if there is a relationship between witchcraft and philosophy it is in the XXth. century. This mean that witchcraft (not necesarily related to the way the occult tradition or Occult Philosophy since Hermeticism understands magic) or the witchcraft world becomes a means of thinking the social, the political, and the ideas (concepts) themselves. I got to say this is awesome. Good examples are Jacques Derrida (as spectropoetics had mentioned in the Forums) with Spectres de Marx thinking around the first idea within Communist Manifesto: There is a relationship within the political and the realm of the otherworld as a force that haunts (such as Hamlet father's ghost) from a philosophical perspective being faithful to the historical fact of the critique of the abuse done by the powerful over the oppressed. This makes me think that practicing Traditional Witchcraft is, wehter or not we are aware of, a political position (in a philosophical and practical standpoint as Carl Schmitt says, "every choice is political, even choosing not to be", my paraphrasing from his Political Theology book). Which political stance? To be part of those that help or support the abused (think of Aradia). Other philosophical perspective on witchcraft and thought is a section found in A Thousand Plateaus written by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. This perspective is commented by other philosophers that are related to recent trend aknowledged as Speculative Realism such as Mark Fisher or Matt Lee (there are other philosophers that rethink metaphysics from S. R. as Graham Harman's Object-oriented ontology or OOO). Deleuze & Guattari take the philosophy of affections by Spinoza (Jewish philosopher excommunicated in the XVIIth. b.c.e.) to talk about immanence (material reality) but with trascendental elements (metaphysics). Spinoza use to think reality as a sort of pantheism, although it is not exactly like that, but it helps them (D & G) to think the possibilities of understanding becoming instead of being as ontological condition of the living. However, A Thousand Plateaus stands for a affective theory of Capitalism as schizophrenic metastructure (Capitalism constructs reality of things and the living within the realm of the market other than organic. It also privileges representation, virtuality and static notion of the self although it behaves in a schizophrenic -clinically talking- way). They have a leftist perspective on Capitalism so they talk about how to scape from it (because it becomes means of control of societies and life itself) in its schizophrenic moments... Ok, this sounds crazy (may I refer to The Hermetic Deleuze by Joshua Ramey, really cool). Witchcraft is seen by D&G as means to become ontologically somehing else than human, as some shamanic and witch experiences recorded by lore can be understood as the fetch that takes the place of the witch sent by her/him. The witch (the sorcerer as translated into English, I guess that the orignal french should be sorciere) becomes animal. The main idea is that becoming is different ontologically than being. It reminds Heraclitus' (an important pre-socratic) phrase: "no one baths in the same river", referring to existence itself as becoming. We can think of transforming ontological reality as witches. Thats philosophically astonishing. That we know but in philosophical terms D&G point to becoming more important than being because it is not statical and its surrounded by affections. Attending affections is life transforming itself and not being the same always as the thought of the absolute (as inscribed in Christian theology that stablishes everything from the beginning also the end and nothing can scape from the Absolute). Thus becoming challenges the notion of a total being that do not changes and stablishes the reality of things. Becoming as magic (and the moon) is change itself as politically and socially disruptive. What do you think about it? There is much more to say in other subjects (as life and plants within metaphysics, for example, La vie des plantes. Une mètaphysique du mélange -The life of plants. A Metaphysics of Mixture- by Emanuele Coccia, etc.)
  3. How did you obtain your set(s)? If you collected it, in building your own set... other than selecting items that feel right or speak to you, how did you select your pieces? Did you look for items to fit certain meanings or symbols? Has your collection evolved over time? What did you find most useful or missing, as you worked with it? I'll be crafting/building a personally curated set of casting/throwing "bones", and here is my interpretation or compilation of suggestions (including some from Avery Hart's blog) for the pieces I will be considering to include: Self Unseen/Spirit Other/Stranger Health/Body Love/Passion Wealth/Fortune Magic/Influence Family/Relationship One/Little or Many/Much (two-sided) No/stop/wait Yes/go/act Evil/Bad intentions Truth/True desires Fated or Decision/Crossroads (two-sided) Male/Sun [not sure on this one yet] Female/Moon [not sure on this one yet] I've seen the inclusion of all kinds of materials - which pieces in your set mean the most to you? What size or scale is your set? So far, I expect to consider anything I come across that is meaningful: buttons, bones, dice, trinkets, rocks and stones, bones, claws and teeth, shells, jewelry, keys, and other small curios and artifacts.
  4. Hi everyone, I am curious about what folks are using for their divination tools. I've tried a couple of different things throughout the years, and lately, I have been using the Greek Alphabet Oracle; I also have an interest in Geomancy, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the astrological parts of the readings. Is divination a big part of your practice?
  5. So I've had this idea for awhile, to astral project at will in order to speak to my higher self, and maybe a few spirits that passed on from this world that I knew . I think it would be a great divination tool in order to connect with my higher self. As of late, I've been trying to meditate more in order to "get out" of my body and using shields in case I manage to get out one day. But I was wondering if anyone else has been able to do this? And if so, what have been your results?
  6. I recently ran across a quote from an anonymous source in a old witchcraft magazine from 1914 called the word. The quote is as follows: "But divination, in whatever manner we may operate is dangerous or at least useless for it disheartens the will. Consequently, it restricts the freedom and fatigues the nervous system. A hebrew prophet once said "he that consulteth spirits will not sow" ". I've always used the tarot to guide me. I've even used it to decide how I should go about a magical operation, what I should avoid etc..But this quote got me thinking, what if divination is doing me more harm than good? I always felt like the whole point of divination is to understand whats coming so we have an opportunity to change it...I'd love to get some other perspectives on this. Was there ever a time when you felt like divination was more restrictive than freeing?
  7. Freya's Runes.... Painted Rowan, rabbit, leather, quartz, deer and assorted beads, the power of a goddess...
  8. Bear. Engraved black stones with a bear paw on each one in a red suedecloth bag and appropriate marker stone...
  9. I've never really had an affinity for tarot specifically. I lucked out and found an oracle deck that basically screamed at me every time I went into my local shop until I finally bought it. Every single reading I have done for other people has been spot on, though per clients, almost brutally honest. That being said, I had never successfully read for myself until burning gum arabic and calling on ancestors for support. Since employing this method, I've had two accurate readings. Does anyone else have this issue? I've been told that some decks, whether oracle or tarot are just finicky. Some will only work for the reader, some will only work for the clients. I'm happy to have found a solution for my particular problem, but I'm curious as to others' thoughts on the issue. Does anyone else have a hard time reading themselves?
  10. These are glimpses of some of my rune sets. They are hand painted stones I gather from the glacial rivers here. Each are painted with Elder Futhark on one side, and on the obverse sides such designs as bumblebees, wild roses, thistles, shamrocks, and bear paws. The Sacred Oak set has acorns and leaves painted in spring and fall colors. I keep them in draw string pouches that lay out to become casting cloths. Runes hold a deep fascination for me, though my divination skills in a word, suck. Nonetheless, I find their power compelling and inspiring and have been painting these stones since I was 8 or 9 years old. I used to leave them stashed in the woods...
  11. There was no beginning to this path I'm walking. No moment when I decided "I want to be a witch". It just... kind of happened. You see, when I was still a child I had these visions, sudden glimpses to the future. I didn't think much of it, since I thought everyone saw them. Later on I of course learned that that was not the case. I wish that I could learn to use this ability, but I've never been able to consciously reach that stage of mind. I just... kind of accidentally drift into it when I'm spacing out. If anyone has any suggestions how to work on this I would gladly take it! Another thing is that I don't really see anything important, just everyday moments from something that happens later on. Only use I've ever gotten from my visions is this sense of comfort. For me they work as this assuring that I'm still on the path I'm supposed to follow. Half a year ago I met this guy online who I was instantly drawn towards. In the beginning he felt it too. It was definitely not accident that this happened and my intuition was telling me he was going to be really important to my life. What I failed to realize, however, was that maybe he was here to teach me a lesson and make me grow as a person instead of becoming my life long partner. After talking daily for 6months and living with him in a foreign country for 1 month, he broke my heart. Even though I was devastated we decided to stay friends and I still think he has some more lessons to teach me that are necessary for my growth. How is this related to my visions you might ask? There were couple moments I had with him which I had seen beforehand, though at the time of seeing them I didn't realize I'd experience those moments with him in a totally different country. How foolish was I to let that calm my heart! I know I was supposed to be there, but what I learned was that we were also destined to break up. After I came back home, my heart in thousand pieces, something I had seen before happened. It was one of those mundane moments, which didn't seem important at the time the vision came to me. When that moment became true though I realized why it was something important for me to see: this was something inevitable and this vision confirmed the feeling I had had that none of what happened was in my hands. Why is this so important? This breakup, as much as it broke my heart, guided me back to my path. By losing him, I ended up finding myself. I'm a phoenix who time after time keeps on burning to the ashes just to be born again. Since childhood butterflies have guided me and again it's time to observe them and follow their example. It's time to create a cocoon around myself so that some day when my metamorphosis is done, I'll hatch out as a beautiful butterfly. Right now I may not have wings, but with time they will grow and one day they'll carry me again.
  12. I am having trouble sleeping. Tonight will be a night that I am afraid to close my eyes. Last night I had yet another dream about a demon. I say demon because that is the best way to describe it. It is always a vial, horned, snarling beast. In last nights dream I was panicked and felt like I couldnt get out of bed, the blankets seems to strangle me. Then I started to ask my fiance to help me and when he rolled over in bed it was a demon, not him. I quick got out of bed and looked at him. It was at that point I woke up and was standing by my bed, my fiance holding up his phone flashlight on, looking very confused. This was the first time the demon took the form of someone I know. I am not sure who to turn to with this. When I talk about it with others I just get looks that leave me feeling like im just going mad. I am hoping that someone on here can give me some advise. I look on the internet and people just say that I need to accept Jesus into my heart and it will go away. Dreams of demons have been happened only about 5 times in the past 7 months. I have woken up screaming and fighting off something. Other nights I just dont sleep or I have very vivid and weird dreams. I never had night terrors when I was little. I would have nightmares like any other kid but nothing like this .I also use to sleep walk but have not done that is quite a few years. I have totally stopped talking to The Other Side for fear the dreams are trying to tell me that something is trying to get in. Even doing my divination work seems to feel not right. I could really use some advise from someone who has some sort of understanding of what I am talking about.
  13. So I have a question... I did a basic Celtic cross spread for myself yesterday, and got some, um, stuff. Well, I guess what I am saying is pretty much as the title states: I could use another person (or other intelligent minds) to give some input on the reading, hence the thread. There are a lot of changes going on in my life right now. I recently got a big ass promotion, and am currently going through a bit of an upheaval at home and within my own mind, spiritually. I have also (kind of) re-begun things with someone from my past. That being said, the thing that was on my mind as I was shuffling the cards was this: "What is up with this person? What role do they/will they play in my life?" So, here are the cards as I laid them: 1) Lovers 2) 6 Cups 3) 6 Pentacles 4) Fool 5) 8 Wands 6) 8 Cups 7) Heirophant 8) Strength 9) Page of Swords 10) Page of Cups I can see each card for what role it plays in the reading alone, but trying to interpret the reading as a whole is a bit overwhelming. There are more major arcana cards than I am used to, different ones, and it is a lot to take in.
  14. Good day I think I might be losing the ability to read tarot (if such a thing is possible). Coming from a ritual magick background I have always done a reading before attempting any spells etc. I have however recently found that my deck is unreliable, withholding information and misleading me. I have cleansed it, redone the blessing and even acquired a second deck. I am at my wits end, and I think I might even be losing my touch ;( Does anybody have any insight or advice to offer? I would really appreciate a different perspective and help.
  15. Ok y'all- So I did use the search button and look around a bit regarding this subject, but it looks like the last thread actually dedicated to it was from 2008 and the last responses are from 2012. Since there are many new members here and most of them never posted in that thread, I'd like to get some thoughts from the frequent posters and/or ones who can still reply to me, lol. Especially bc I know there are several people on here who know quite a bit about the spirit world- I'd really like to hear your thoughts regarding them. Do you believe they work first and foremost? I've heard the "horror" stories (so to speak) about them. Do you think the Ouija board is a potentially harmful/negative way to do divination? Do you believe the spirits who communicate through them are legit (like typical ghosts I suppose is what I mean in this situation) or do you believe they're more "mischievous" and/or even malevolent entities who trick you? Do you think special precautions are necessary when interacting with/using one? I've read the owner of this website's info regarding the use of them and was wondering if that's the general consensus on the matter (like don't use them by yourself, make sure you say goodbye to the spirit and that it says goodbye to you, candles, incense, etc)? If using one for divination purposes how reliable to the think the info is? Does anyone have any personal experiences/stories they are willing to share either here or via pm? Much appreciated you guys!
  16. So what do you do when your tarot goes wrong, wrong, wrong? Not like, "oops I interpreted this badly wrong" or "the answers are sorta hazy" wrong but "the exact opposite of what the cards said is true" wrong. I've been using tarot cards for a while with a great deal of success. I usually go with the traditional interpretations plus a little of my own instincts but everyonce in a while I branch out when working with specific spirits and guides and use very specific code with the cards. If I need "yes or no" answers, I have a key for that, if I need a name spelled out, I've got an alphabetical key. And a key specifically for divining what sort of magical workings to do. These methods have always been pretty accurate as well, at least on par with the traditional tarot meanings as long as I am specific with my guides and my intent. But yesterday, it was very, very wrong. I asked a series of three yes or no questions and got a very disturbing answer. It sent me into a bit of tailspin of anxiety. So badly that I asked the same three question later that day for confirmation and received the exact answers as before. This really sent me into a panic which lasted throughout the day. The tarot answers, along with the circumstances of the day, and an omen filled dream that I had were the perfect storm for my anxious mind. This morning I found out that the answers the Tarot gave me were wrong and there was no need for anxiety at all. The exact opposite of the answers it gave me were true. So now I'm kinda flummoxed...tarot never failed me this hard before...and it did it twice in a row with the same answers (which would be a rare probability using the yes/no method I employed). So what's the deal? Do I have a nasty spirit manipulating me thru the cards? I have had incidents of spirits feeding off of my panic before so I gave myself a good smudging this morning and will take other measures as well. Should I avoid the cards for a while or is there something I need to do to clear up the communication with my helpful spirits? Anyone ever had something like that happen before? Should I maybe not ask y/n questions that leave me vulnerable to manipulation? To be honest, this has sorta shattered my trust in tarot a bit, but I've had such good success with it in prior to this...
  17. This deck is breathtaking, simply gorgeous! 36 major arcana cards of beautiful arts. Definitely a collector deck with 14 new major arcana cards added to the original 22 major arcana cards.
  18. Ok so the Demon Tarot isn't really a tarot deck. It's an oracle deck with 72 demons, some from the Lesser Key of Solomon and some from other grimoires. I think the deck is really about human nature, and what humans can learn from demons or knowledgeable spirits (daemon). There is a witch in the deck, the Brooms card. That card seems to be about travel and spiritual cleansing. Has anyone else used this deck, and are the results accurate?
  19. I want to know how last night's land spirit offering was received. So, here are the cards I got. I have an overall feeling the offering itself was received well, but I've a learning curve on land spirits. I feel as though they're saying that I'm seeing them as I want to see them, and that has to stop because my bias is preventing me from hearing their messages if that makes sense. What do you think? The Sun 8 pentacles 10 swords 10 wands
  20. Hey, everyone~! I know I keep bringing up the subject of playing card divination, and I'm still not sure how many people do it.. But, honestly, I don't think it matters - I think this could apply to any form of divination. When I first started reading, I found a site that gave meanings of each of the individual cards, but not what they meant when put together. I was extremely confused, and because I had no one to ask, I quickly gave up. When I picked the cards up again late last year (after joining this forum!), I came across a post on one of the threads that gave a link to HedgeWytchery's "Cartomancy for the Witch of Poor Memory". When I went through it, it seemed perfect - it gave not only the meanings of the individual cards, but also their meanings when read together..and it rhymed, so it was extremely easy to remember! :pumpkin_rolleyes: The only real problem, is that there was no relation between the two at all. The meanings were totally different for each of the sources. Anyways, I did a card reading recently, and the cards that I drew didn't seem to have any relation to the question posed...when I used HedgeWytchery's method. However, when I looked at the other source, it made perfect sense. I guess my real question (sorry, I didn't mean to ramble..) is..has this happened to anyone else? Have you seen two totally different interpretations of one form of divination? And if so, which one did you decide to use, and why? I'm not sure if I should've tried harder to interpret the draw using HedgeWytchery's interpretation or not.. Thank you in advance for your thoughts~. Yanagi
