  • How familiar are you with witchcraft?
I am moderately familiar with witchcraft and have done some studies of the Ars Goetia and Grimorium Verum on my own. I have also tried to investigate traditions further back in my ancestry, experimented with a number of New-Age traditions locally, and studied principles behind Chaos magic.
  • Have you explored other paths?
I've been adrift since I split from my family's beliefs in middle school (Roman Catholic/Protestant). In that time, I've investigated a number of paths from Judaism to Hellenic Polytheism and found that none fit quite right. When I finally stumbled into witchcraft (Wicca first), it seemed to fit a little better, but not by much.
  • Have you ever worked with Traditional Witchcraft?
Yes, to a certain extent. Due to the lack of a safe space to perform rituals, and a lack of time to seek out those safe spaces in nature, I haven't been able to do as many workings as I would have liked to. However, I take the time out of my daily life to do what I call "acts of magic" which are things like making small offerings or visiting liminal spaces in my area.
  • What does Traditional Witchcraft mean to you?
Traditional Witchcraft is the acknowledgement of ancient superstition and knowledge. It's the acceptance of the things we, as humans, can't explain and the study of how to interact with them based on tradition, location, and instinct.
  • How long have you worked with witchcraft in general?
    Between 6 and 7 years.
  • What brought you to our site?
A google search for non-wiccan, non-new age witchcraft communities. I've been lurking for a few months.
  • What do you expect to get from this site, and what do you expect to contribute to this forum?
I have a hard time focusing on my craft on my own and seek the opinions and views of others in order to expand my own horizons. I've found that discussion and collaboration help me to process my own beliefs with more nuance.
  • Do you belong to any other online witchcraft sites?
No, not anymore. I was an active member of the witchcraft community on tumblr at once point, but left when I found it unreliable and not based on any solid traditions or beliefs.
  • What are your strongest points in witchcraft?
The strongest aspects of my craft are study and philosophy. I am also a fair hand at divination.
  • What are your weakest points in witchcraft?
The weakest points of my craft is ritual. While I understand the concepts and requirements, I lack the practice required to be good at it.

  1. I got my first deck when I was 17. I haven't used it in ages and I feel so bad.... It's definitely got personality. Possessive as all hell, it won't read for literally anyone but me. If I try, the reading comes out gibberish. I pull the worst cards for the smallest things because it loves to be dramatic (I swear I pull the Tower and 10 of Swords at least twice as often when I use it). I miss it a lot, actually. It'll get some better use come summer when my mood picks up and I hope it will forgive me for my absence.
  2. I think this is an interesting self-assessment exercise for sure. I agree with PapaGheny that a lot of people who might request this kind of thing just don't know themselves very well. TBH I think it could be remedied by a bunch of yes-or-no questions, no problem. I think that the Noon-8PM stuff deserves some reflection as well, but I haven't put much thought into that yet. Do you just consider that period some kind of transition? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. No assessment is perfect, and this is an interesting one. Ancestry

I agree with you! DNA tests are notoriously inaccurate, so you'd probably have to do multiple ones and average the results for the most accurate output. My main desire for it comes from the fact I don't know much about my ancestry--I've got a couple of countries and a family name, but that's about it. My living family tends to be tight-lipped about our history before 1800. It would be nice to know where to start, is all.

    Ancestry

I've thought of getting myself an ancestry DNA test as well, since I don't know much about my family history. I feel like it would be a good place to start. I've always wondered if people have an instinctual connection to their heritage cultures--I've always been inexplicably drawn to the Scottish portion of my heritage more than the other possibilities for seemingly no reason at all. Maybe there's a correlation.

  6. I found this cool questionaire while I was kicking around the internet the other day. It's about Bioregional Animism. I thought it was an interesting was to assess how well you know the environment you're working in, since TW tends to pull directly from the land you're on. I copied the questions here, but here's a link to the original post. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on it.
