Melusine

I have been researching the legends of Melusine.

There are legends based in various places, including France, Germany and Scotland, but all have the same story.

It is also interesting how English history and Melusine intertwines through the Plantagenat line, with the aparent marriage of the Count of Anjevin with Melusine herself.

The furthest back I can find is that Melusine was the daughter of Pressyne and King Elynas of Albany, which is possibly the link to Scotland. Albany being one name used for the northern eastern part of Scotland.

Does anyone have an opinion on Melusine and her legends as associated with documented history, or perhaps some information on the legends?

Best wishes

After a quick search I found this site. Apparently, different countries have different versions. I like the french version, and it so happens that alot of my family come from that area.

Goodness what a rabbit hole this topic might be, for those with an inclination to follow the white rabbit 🐇 (I mean that quite literally,  too.) And why is Melusine the two tailed mermaid,  mother of monsters on your Starbucks cup?

Yes, the house of Lusignan. Yet another evocative name. Melusine supposedly built Chateau de Lusignan as well.

The main branch of the house of Lusignan supposedly became entwined with the house Anjou, the Plantagenets. I understand and agree with your opinion of the royals, but royal bloodlines and heraldry are surprisingly something fascinating to explore imo. If only because of the multitude of connections. A literal rabbit hole.
