Looking for a book on moon phases

Hey everyone,

I was hoping for some recommendations on one or two books on moon phases specifically. I looked at a couple of the reviews on the forum and found Everyday Moon Magic and 13 Moons, Journal of a Natural witch... Sorry, not paying $100,000 for a frickin book. YIKES!

Anyway, I was hoping to find something that combined the moon phases, especially the meaning and intent associated with the quarters, along with the 13 moons... Wolf moon, Blood moon, etc. Any suggestions?

This one might interest you if you're into Native American lore - Thirteen Moons on a Turtles Back

http://www.amazon.com/Thirteen-Moons-Turtles-Joseph-Bruchac/dp/0698115848

It's only $7.99

or this one

http://www.amazon.com/Moon-Spells-Phases-What-Want/dp/1580626955/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334115784&sr=1-5

It's also inexpensive, though I suspect it might be quite fluffy.

Better yet, try this link and browse through:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_4?rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Amoon+phases%2Cn%3A!1000%2Cn%3A22&bbn=1000&keywords=moon+phases&ie=UTF8&qid=1334115784&rnid=1000

I searched Amazon on "moon phases" (under the "Books" category) , then chose the spirituality and religion subcategory to narrow it down.

Ebay seems to have a ton of books too, like the everyday moon magic but for only 7$.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/POWER-MOON-TERESA-MOOREY-/370558711935?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item564705387f power of the moon 4$. Although it says using wiccan rituals etc... I'm sure the information in the there would be useful for other purposes too.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moon-Phase-Astrology-Lunar-Key-Your-Destiny-/150625646289?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item2311fcf6d1 15$ !

sacred-texts.com seems to have a few hits too if you search for "moon." Hope this was helpful!

I have found one way of working with the moon (or the sun, or the seasons, lol) is to also work with the roads within a compass. Many do not consider this specifically "traditional" but bottom line it is of a pagan nature and is one of the many ways one can work with a compass and the roads. If one assigns a moon quarter to each road on the compass (which are not specifically roads for moon or seasonal workings, but can also be worked with in that way - the compass has many uses). Understand the meaning of the North Road (Crow Road, Underworld Road, Ancestor Road, whatever one names it) and then one has a very good feel for the dark moon, including that it is not "absent of energy" as much of neo-paganism believes, but that it is a very deep, powerful, mystical energy. Not an "absent moon" but actually a full moon with it's fullness facing away from the mundane world and full in the underworld. Invoke each road, feel the difference and learn the uses and attributes and energy of each specific road and the in between areas. That I know of there aren't any books showing this, but if you work the perimeter of a compass it can teach you. Again, many write off the compass and ritual as neo-pagan (I suppose because it is used in Wiccan under its relative, the circle). I have no idea if folk-witches of the past used it, but it works so it is something I use often within my craft, invoking the cross roads.

Hi Oceana,

If you are still interested in obtaining a copy of 13 Moons:Journal of a Natural Witch...just a heads up..I was able to obtain a copy by diligently watching out for a decent priced copy of the book...I use www.bookfinder.com..it's a great site that finds available copies of books on the internet.

Now, granted, it took me at least a few months of searching every day..but I eventually found a copy with a decent price and snatched it up.

Either way, good luck

Much better prices, in the low hundreds instead of thousands, thanks Anara! Do you think its worth a hundred to you?

I paid $70 & I would have paid $100, just because of the resale value. I believe this book will hold its value, should I ever decide to sell it.

I lucked up once and got 13 moons for $50 us dollars. It's a really good book. It's a beginners book, but there were things I hadn't read or tried before. It is a book I won't be selling or tradingfo a long while if ever. However, I don't think I would spend more than I did for it. I just have a hard time justifying spending a lot of money on a book.

You found a great deal! Awesome!

I agree, I am hesitant to spend a lot of money on books too, but, with this one, I justified the purchase because I do honestly feel it will hold the value, but, I would have loved to have found it for $50!! I don't think I would be selling mine ever either...but its nice to know, if I did someday, I could at least possibly get back what I put into it. Truthfully though, I'll probably end up giving it to one of my kids when they grow up-if they are interested.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will keep my eye out for the 13 Moons book (at a reasonable price).

The 'bookfinder' link is great thank you.

M- I was hoping to do what you suggest, meditating on the meanings during the actual moons... I just need a jumping off point. I've worked with the full and new moon so much, I feel it's time to expand my workings. I do work with a compass, but only for ritual type of workings or when I need some extra punch.
