I saw an ad recently for "haunted jewelry." I was wondering if anyone here has ever intentionally purchased anything because it's "haunted."

I've never bought anything that was advertised as haunted, but I have bought things because I felt something attached to them and was curious. It's occasionally gotten me into some trouble but I figure if we never get ourselves into a jam we'll never learn how to get out of them. lol

Descended from pioneers who came West from the Southern Appalachians at the beginning of the nineteenth century, they made little contact with the outer world for more than a hundred years. They seem like foreigners to the average urban American, but nearly all of them come of British stock, and many families have lived in America since colonial days. Their material heirlooms are few, but like all isolated illiterates they have clung to the old songs and obsolete sayings and outworn customs of their ancestors." Ozark Magic and Folklore

I would never buy anything that's advertised as being haunted, just because it's probably a gimmick and the person selling is probably charging something ridiculous. May be my personal experience, but if something is truly haunted, people usually will give it away, just to be rid of it rather than trying to sell it.

That's what I was thinking. Besides not being certain that what you buy is really "haunted," the idea of intentionally buying someone's issues is kind of loopy to me. On the other hand, it's great ice-breaker material. "Hey, my typewriter is haunted and types rotten love poems all by itself!"

Something else I've seen lately is jewelry that sellers claim has been embued with a spirit of their own conjuring. I'm instantly skeptical. I wouldn't want someone else doing that for me. Or claiming to do so. And I'm certainly not going to pay for it.

Depends on what the feeling is...I've had some serious "get the hell away from me" vibes from some objects. Not sure I would want to take that kind of risk...not knowing what I'm bringing home. Not that kind of energy. But it there was something just kind of tweeking about the item...mot a particular positive or negative feeling, I might buy it. *might*

Gal pal of mine, has a collection of old hat pins, she found one on Ebay that she adored, yet it was from a Seller who specifically deals with the paranormal, and haunted items. Seller has a great reputation, very believable advirtisements of items, stories to go along with items, the whole shebang. Gal pal was concerned but lusted after the hatpin. She asked me, "what do you think, should I bid for it?"

I replied, " I don't care what you do with your money, if you want it buy it "... " It's haunted though ", she says.

After giving her that long ( oh for fucks sake ) look, " since it's not an item, that would suffer with the properties of salt for a month, bury the damn thing in the salt, and forget about it ". She's never had a problem with it.

Its what YOU believe, and perceive to be true and authentic or not. Not what others believe and perceive.

All apart of knowing oneself, in my opinion.

Regards,
Gypsy

I've seen those on ebay. They look hilarious. Would I buy a piece of "haunted jewellry"? No, probably not. Now, a doll? Maybe. But they're already creepy enough with those glass eyes--and I already had experience with mannequins as a child to warn me off for a lifetime!

Ive looked at a lot of haunted jewelry and found it quite gimmicky. Ive seen claims that the jewelry was made haunted by conjuring the spirit in it using the talents of a single witch, medium, etc and they usually have a large catalog. I doubt one person would be able to interact with that many spirits without some negative side-effects.

But if you want truly haunted jewelry then I would say make your own or have a trusted person do it for you so you know its legitimate.

I myself have bought a few haunted items on accident and I have been recently finding items in my house that weren't there before like a small bracelet with two beads and a peace of a child's toy but I Have a feeling it was left by a fay creature who likes to play with my stones.

Haunted- as in cursed? Who the Hell would want those pieces? Gemstones can be so beneficial to the wearer when selected and cleaned properly, why would one weigh themselves down with any difficult energy- especially that from another?

I assumed she meant haunted as in a spirit attached to it?

Depends who's left to buy for in the family for birthday/christmas :P

When I was little my dad one day brought a massive box of stuff to my house - He used to work at a dumpsite and recycling centre and quite often him and "the lads" would be allowed to pick through large lots of stuff that was dumped from peoples' houses after they'd passed away and nobody in the family wanted/claimed it.

In this box were some books (in one of them were some old photographs of Alice Liddle) a collection of stones and gems (including volcanic rock) and a jewellery box. Most of the stuff in the jewellery box I was fine with, But I remember a a pair of clip on earrings that freaked me out, I never really thought about it until recently - I don't even know where they are now. I guess they're still in that old jewellery box and in the attic or the garage of my parents home where most of my stuff ends up. There was also a ring I was fascinated with - it was plain, tarnished, silver with a oval of onyx in the middle. That was all it was but I was enthralled by it.

I'd not thought about any of that stuff for years, I've asked my mother to drag some of my stuff out of the garage for me to sort through - would be cool if she managed to dig up that old box, now I'm older and have a better idea on things I'd be intrigued to look into it further.

Funny what sparks a memory reading on these forums, isn't it?

I can understand personally making a piece of jewelry into a talisman, so that I can control what the result is. I actually like that idea.

But buying something that (assuming isn't not a hoax) brings into the home an unknown energy or spirit with untold issues - cry havoc! Interesting for a while, but irritating at least later, if not downright dangerous.

But I have bought used jewelry only because of a "I have to have that!" feeling. One in particular is a gold bangle bracelet. Simple, not much to it, but it brings me a great deal of happiness when I wear it. I don't know if it's because of residual energy from the previous owner, or what, but I don't like gold usually, and I made an exception for that bracelet. Didn't really even think about it when I bought it.

Have any of you had experience where the object brought something positive rather than negative?

Yes. I bought a silver and purple CZ necklace and earring set at a pawn shop a few years ago. I saw it and fell in love with it. It gives me really good feelings every time I put it on. That is one set of jewelry I will hang on to.
