Stellar Tools

A local witch-cum-Druid posted an article on the internet years ago which purported to explain the origin of the tools used by traditional witches.

Unfortunately, he listed all the Wiccan tools. He explained that millennia ago the outline of these tools could be discerned in various constellations. Traditional witches have thus used their tools for millennia.

The constellations have moved over these vasts aeons so that the original outlines can no longer be seen.

His stooges (followers) believed this. No doubt some still do.

I think that sterrar lore may well have been used by some practioners in some areas (particularly the more gnostic, less "rural" paths), but I would agree that it was not in relation to tools. I would imagine that the rural witch's tools were that which could be found in nature, and that some of the more gnostic-based paths may well have brought in some of the ceremonial/grimoire type tools. I.e. blades v. wands, "circle" v. the "faiery" ring, evoking spirits v. invoking, etc. My impression was that the rural or nature-based path was more of the feeling that one lived within a maical world, whereas I see many of the knowledge-based paths as feeling that one brings the magical world to one's self, if that makes sense. Druids I am not familiar with, and the ritual structure of Wiccan is much based on ceremonialism.

LOL!!

One of the most traditional witches I ever knew used a needle and thread as her most common tool, and they certainly aren't based on constellations.

And yet some of the tools of arte do find their place within stellar lore, so we shouldn't complete discount it, albeit it may not apply to every tool.

For example the Arthame/Knife - be forged of Iron, which is considered the Stellar stone fallen to earth - the Knife likewise could be linked to the constellation Draco, being the Stellar Dragon in connection with the Dragon/Serpent of Eden, Samael (Often linked with Mars, planetary ruler of Iron). Draco makes it's revolution around the point, Polaris - much like the Knife being dual-bladed but having one point. Nigel Jackson's "Lay of the Arthame" features the invocation "Here is the Metal: it dropp'd from the sky, a ferrous tear of the Fire Drake's eye..."

There is also the Shew-Stone, the Lantern, the Cord - all of these have particular Stellar attachments assigned to their place and use within Arte.

Perhaps it isn't so much their origin, but rather their threads bound with stellar principles which inform this thought.

Thank you, Grimr for the informative post. It certainly provided food for thought.

I was remiss for not providing more information about this hilarious article.

This local witch-cum-Druid advertised in the Veneficia magazine that he would confer Pickingill initiations on those who completed his Druidic course, or who had completed his witchcraft courses.

His article purported to show that the Pickingill tools were originally outlined in the constellations. Members of he Australian Pagan/Craft community rolled in the aisles with laughter.

Eventually he heard that I was living in Brisbane. He arrived out of the blue with his priestess in tow, and asked me to give her the Alexandrian 3rd. (See third degree with afternoon tea in this section)

He was out of luck. If I had initiated that girl in the way that they wanted, the Pickingill "power"would have been passed to her with the Alexandrian authority. In his mind he could legitimately confer Pickingill initiations because she would pass the "power" to him.

This is the witch-cum-Druid who convinced his followers that in his next incarnation he would return as Lord Maitreya.

So mean of you not to pass the power!!

I have a large respect for the stars and their relation to my craft, but having read anjeaunot's other humor threads, I was pretty sure who he was talking about and that this dewd's associations would be laughable. And as others have said, not every tool applies..

Yes, Stacey. I can be really mean if it is warranted.

I love that clever parody of the 23rd Psalm:

"Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, shall I fear no evil.

For verily, I am the meanest bastard in the Valley."

Both Stacey and Aloe can PM me if I have piqued their curiosity.

Lady Whisper will draft a PM to the moderators about the local witch-cum-Druid.

I can't say any more on a public forum. Perhaps the moderators may graciously PM me for details before my wife types the scenario.

Greetings All

Yep you know I know exactly who is being discussed here.

Here is an interesting tidbit about the situation caused by this particular waste of genetic material.

When it all first hit the fan I was at a gathering of "Witches" over here who all moaned and wailed and wrung their hands chittering on about "What can we do!?" They went on at length round in circles making concerned noises and wailing on about how evil it all was and so on.

Eventually I got exasperated and shouted to end the weak muttering and put it to them that if they were witches they should be able to have it taken care of.

I even stated that most of the people I knew knew further people that can have such things dealt with if they didn't feel "up to the task'.

I was even more amazed at their response than I think the assembled were at my suggestions!

All warblings about Karma aside - when threatened you remove the threat.

Anyone with any level of sense whatsoever stops potential threats before they actuate.

This particular instance over here is still one that is a thorn in the side of the communities at large. While I have NO SYMPATHY FOR THEM WHATSOEVER as they have largely BROUGHT THIS UPON THEMSELVES by refusing to police their own and grow up by living in the real world; the fact remains that the diseased are put down and SHOULD BE.

Explicitly: This sort exist and they should be hunted down, ferreted out and sorted. The best beginning is of course the ridicule they deserve as an entree, a main course of vigilance and swift action followed by the obvious dessert! *BG*

I completely agree. "Taking out the trash" is the phrasing I am accustomed to. I especially like "the diseased are put down" part. That is classic. In real life, people who pose a threat, whether by arrogance or stupidity or whatever, are taken care of quickly. They are not allowed to continue wreaking havoc. No one worries about being mean or infringing on some idiot's free will

:cuckoo: Sure thing.. Not sure which is more pathetic, his assertion or them believing it..

The Pagan and Craft communities in Australia were alarmed by the proclivities of the witch-cum-druid. They rationalized their inactivity by waffling about the victims’ karma and absolving their conscience by assuring each other that wrong-doers would be punished in their next life.

Needless to say, it wasn’t his laughable claims that provoked consternation and ensured a flurry of media attention.

Many Australian pagans and crafters read this website. I initially opted to use ridicule as a means of alerting people, who might otherwise succumb to the blandishments of the witch-cum-druid.

Members may PM me if they would like more details.
