The Devil's Advocate

Have any of you watched this movie??

I feel it is quite intense, nothing to do with witchcraft but it is about the devil and his minions, those minions being lawyers.

Interesting flick, I don't really subscribe to the belief of either, but very entertaining, and thought provoking non the less.

Anyone else just LOVE IT???

Absolutely. I love this movie. Intense is definitely the word for it. It's been quite a while since I've watched it... I may have to drag it out again.

When I was a young teen, I was fascinated by the scene where the beef tongue was used to silence the prosecuting attorney.

I work in a law office so I can vouch for the authenticity of lawyers = satan (um... NOT, lol) but yes, I did enjoy the movie. The part with the tongue is interesting and I have actually heard of spells of that type although I have never used one and wouldn't use a spell regarding outcome of legal cases at work (just me, becuase that's my work).

I can never bring myself to watch it mainly because the term and concept of "devil's advocate" is a pet peeve of mine. lol, and also because it has Keanu Reeves in it.

I love this movie. One of my favorites. The scene with Delroy Lindo in the basement is incredibly accurate. This is the scene that you may think of as Vodou, but he is actually playing very well the part of a bokor. In the scene there is a tree stump with a phallus, this is Legba, a Fon (Yoruba folks) shrine to the keeper of the crossroads. In Haiti he is known as Papa Legba. Of course, there are many other aspects to the practice of a bokor, but they certainly gave a good glimpse of the tradition. The movie does have a kind of Christian perspective, but I think it is well done. I have watched movies from a variety of religious slants, I just like the story and the authentic peek at the bokor. The stone relief behind Al Pacino's desk is done by an artist that I have seen work from here in New Orleans. I think this is one of Pacino's best performances as an actor, but certainly not the only one for him.

Sorry, I don't recall the artist's name. I saw his work several years ago. I only remember that it was in a gallery on Royal St.. Glad you found the info interesting.

Guest Magdalena

One of my most favourite films.

Was the bas-relief designer for the film Raymond Prado? The idea was taken from the Ex Nihilo and there was some breech of copyright case going on about it with the sculptor of the Ex Nihilo, Frederick Hart. WB had to do a revised version of that scene before it was allowed to be released.
