Mountain Witch
OK all you bibliophiles out there, I need some titles: I have a sheltered, Christian friend who works with a back-to-nature pagan-type. For the last ten years, she thought he was a solo weirdo - until she found out about me! (Although I'll admit he's got a few strange ideas, even for me.) She's a 'box'-type thinker, sweet but not the most book-learned person I've met, and all this 'new-fangled' paganism is really confusing her. Anyone have suggestions of books she can read that will explain paganism in easy-to-understand terms? I don't have any "Paganism 101" books 'cuz it's not something I need(ed) to learn about. There's a book out there called "When Someone You Love Is Wiccan" and yes, I know you're not Wiccan, but bottom line is it's a book that makes the craft look totally loving, non-threatening, help-nature, etc., and would probably be much better accepted by her if you're looking to put her mind at ease. (Back to the old axiom "Use all the serve the witch" and if using that book serves you then what the fuck, lol). Anything you give her that deals with the underworld, cursing, negative entities, etc., is only going to freak her out, so give her something nice and fluffy, smile sweetly and she'll be happy. I'm not worried about what she thinks about me - we've already had that "conversation" (we haven't actually met - we have a client in common - she lives in FL so we mostly communicate by email now that she's learned that). She also knows me well enough to probably figure I'm not all love-and-light. Truth be told, she's not, either! It's more explaining the not-worshipping-God part she doesn't get. She's never really been exposed to anything outside Christianity, and isn't well-read enough to know there's more out there than just the religions that make the local news. So you could have her come meet me up in gay-town and I could really introduce her to some things she's never seen before - she'll think witchcraft is harmless after that, lol!!! Dawn
What about her readin g more about the history of paganisim / witchcraft first then movingon to the more spritual and practice aspects of it? I love history and really enjoyed Triumph of the Moon. What do you think?

Mountain Witch
thats a tricky one! is it just the pagan books you are wanting recommended, or something that also talks about the Craft too? Mostly pagan. I've explained witchcraft (as I see it) to her and although she really doesn't quite understand everything I said, sort of gets it. Perhaps as Dawn said, history is a good place to start. I just did an Amazon search and believe it or not, there's a "Complete Idiot's Guide to Paganism"! I have to go into the city today so I think I'll stop at Barnes & Noble & if they carry it, flip through that. Maybe it'll be simple enough for her. Luna Solare
Honestly i would start her out with a book called, "Everything about world religions" . I recently saw one at Barnes and Noble. It gives a very simple overview of all religions. Also it shows how many religions are pagan. It really is great for someone who is not aware of all there is out there. Check it out, it might be what she needs to feel more comfortable with the notion. -Ana
Lela
I haven't read this one myself, but you can also try Paganism: an introduction to earth-centered religions By Joyce Higginbotham. Reviews on Amazon give it 3 stars and up, so it might be worth considering for your friend as well.
