Saw this movie a few years ago, had it on my mind today because I was looking at violin lessons. Anyone saw this? I love it, it's one of my favorite movies. (NOT for kids, nudity, etc.)

Yes, I saw it quite a few years ago and would love to see it again. I don't remember much apart from the little boy who died of exhaustion because his father had made him practise non-stop. And then didn't it follow the lives of those who came into contact with it? I know I found it very moving. I can play the piano but I can't even get a screech out of a violin.

I'll PM you Absinthe, don't want to ruin the plot for anyone reading this who hasn't watched it. :)

I have a lovely black violin that I bought to learn, and then I found out I was pregnant and was too sick to go to any lessons, and haven't been able to make time since. lol

It's an amazing movie. Kinda made me happy about being a violinist as well as curious about the history of my violin, as it's older, something I got at a pawn shop and had an interesting experience when I had it appraised. I need to see that movie again. Go go netfix search!

I was just searching for it on netflix tonight, it's there but not on instant play. Would love to hear about your experience when you got your violin appraised... (hint lol)

Found that out too:( Lol, okay, here's the story.

When I was 13, I needed a full size violin. I had saved some money and was looking for one. My stepdad was in a little pawn shop and saw one. He called my mom and had her bring me to the shop. I looked at it inspected it a bit, noticed it had a number carved in the scroll(which meant it at some point was part of a public school loan system) along with it not being any brand I knew of( I always do extensive research in buying things). The guy wanted 150 for it, so I thought there might be something wrong with it and I just wasn't seeing it, so my stepdad talked the owner in to letting my mom and me take it to a near by music shop and have them look at it.

After getting to the music shop, we handed over the violin to a guy that was supposedly(can't vouch for him) a string instrument expert, and told him we were thinking about buying it from someone and that we were just curious if there was an issues and if it was really worth the money. We walked around the store for about 15 min and came back to talk the guy. He offered us $3000 for it right there, which didn't happen.

Needless to say, I bought it, and have kept it all this time, as it's a beautiful sounding instrument as it has extraordinary acoustics, of which I've never personal heard before in any other violin. I from time to time wonder what that guy was thinking and what's up this violin, but I've never looked into it for some reason. Might have to, but truthfully, i don't care cause it's mine and I love it^_^

Well I watched The Red Violin today, and just loved it. I especially liked the Special Features with the female Violinist who shared her story, as well as the CEO of Christies Auction House. It's really a wonderful story, full of journey. Thanks for posting this, as I had never seen it. Great way to spend an afternoon, while the snow fell.

Regards,

Gypsy

Wonderful movie, one of my favorites... and the soundtrack.. Joshua Bell is perfection..

Definitely. I've got to get the soundtrack, at times I've put the movie in just so I'd have the violin music in the background. lol

I, too, loved that movie!... here's a link to watch it online: The Red Violin

Once you click on that link, you'll be taken to a page with a few different links to watch the movie... You can rate the movie (star rating above) and you can rate the link you used to watch the movie (star rating on the right hand side of the link you've chosen)...

On that site, I usually click on a link from putlocker or megavideo (note that megavideo only allows you to watch 72 minutes then makes you wait 30 minutes before being able to watch it again... To go around it and not have to wait for the 30 minutes to pass, there's 2 ways to go about it... You can either try to refresh the page you're viewing the movie on or you can get a new ip address - by either disconnecting your modem then reconnecting it... or by using ipconfig release all and then the renew)... With potlocker there's no waiting time :)

I LOVE this movie! Funny story- the first 3 times I watched it (yes, because I love it that much) was on a DVD player that we couldn't access subtitles on. When a movie is that great without being able to read what is being said half the time you know it's a winner.
