I did a quick search and couldn't find similar, but I probably just missed it, lol. Anyways. I know its been talked about time and time again on here im sure, and it doesnt have to be a discussion, I just need to vent about a few things. On the other boards I'm on, I can't really without having someone throw the "you HAVE to have respect on here." OK fine, sure.

Anyways, how do you deal with those who don't know, refuse to know, or acknowledge that Witch and Wicca are not always the same thing??! It makes me want to scream. I.Am.No.Wiccan!!! Rawr.

When people get into the "harm none" and talk about how you shouldnt do anything "bad" or "dark" or "black" or "cruel", how do you come back without breaking?

I need some good combacks or venting techniques.

I agree to disagree. If they want to take it further, I walk away. It's not worth my energy - I'm not going to change their mind, they're not going to change mine.
For purposes of action nothing is more useful than narrowness of thought combined with energy of will.

I also say "agree to disagree" it is a waste of time and energy trying to get through to ignorance and a closed mind.

I agree with the two above posts. :witchbroom:

I also " agree to disagree " however.... in my mind and with a soft smile on my face, I say " Fuck them, and feed them fishheads " its not worth expending any more energy than that.

Another who agrees to disagree, but when they tell me personally that I shouldn't be doing something I just tell them simply that only I dictate what I do and may they should try the same thing. Makes life easier when you live by your own rules.

For the most part, I agree to disagree. I live in an extremely, and I mean extremely Christian area, I tend to leave well enough alone. For the most part, its all good. However its bad enough that Im <gasp> a Witch and Pagan, to those that know anyways. To know that Im not a "light" or WTF ever you want to call it, keeps people on my back, so to speak.

I dunno, I feel better venting, lol. I just have those few who wont get off it.../sigh.

Strangely, I've not even had this issue arise in my own life. Likely because no one really knows what I am up to ... most people I encounter vaguely understand wicca or have heard of it. I just haven't had any desire in mentioning my little tricks! lol. If the debate (wicca is or is not the same as witchcraft etc.) confronted me, I might educate if I thought the listener would be interested. But if they seemed close-minded, I'd just move on. Not worth, as others have said, my energy or time!

wow you guys are soo much nicer than me lol. Although I've never had an encounter, most people would agree my general disposition and attitude is a bit off and be thankful that I've already labeled myself a witch and move on. Although if the wiccan vs witch thing ever arose I'd call them uneducated prats and to come talk to me when they've read what they;re mouthing off about. I love a good argument and would fight my point to the death, but I'm a :censored: that way.

I agree that its a waste of time and energy trying to convince the ignorant of the differences, but i'm always doing it anyway. I have a bit of a confrontational side that i'm still trying to work on lol

Agree to Disagree is by far the easiest way... It is never worth the argument in trying to get them to understand...

Everyone who knows me takes me as they find me.
If anyone talks about Black, Dark, Bad magick I just say 'I'll have some of that'
beleve me it kills the topic for me anyway. They change the subject.
They think I'm bad anyway so what the hell go with the flow.

May not work for everyone but it works for me.

I also agree to disagree, their ignorance concerns me in the least, and I feel no need to correct them. Let them focus on Wicca, It keeps them from focusing on us. :)

I live in a mostly Christian area of the bible belt. I am new to witchcraft only by my own stubborness. I believe that if people correlate Wicca and Witch as being the same, there's no need to explain anything. Their ignorance , or what they have heard from others is what has them making that assumption...Assuming "Makes an ass out of you and me". Don't waste your breath.
