I have (had) this beautiful black and gold banded garden spider (bout 2in long) living in a bush in my apt complex , she made her web by a lamp post and did her spider thing. Came home today to find a few boys by the lamp post they ran when i got near them. They had destroyed her web and squished her to bits, i was so mad. I know she was a spider and people hate spiders but still so was a living thing. I dont know just something i need to get off my chest.

I'm absolutely terrified of spiders (bad bite once) I usually scream from a chair, table or the ceiling for someone else to set them outside, but i hate seeing them squished, even more so their webs, they are so intricate and pretty it's a shame to see them destroyed.

Oh my. I totally understand both points of view on this. But I don't support the descruction of the spider or her web. I grew up in El Paso, Texas ( Military Brat ). I know my spiders well. Mother would put up my shoes at night, as that's when the tarantula's would hunt. I KNOW, I KNOW. Anilec is squirming already ! LOL. But in all honesty, creatures should not be destroyed just because of folly. They do have a purpose in the realm. In my animal-wise tarot card, the Spider is a Major Arcana card. She's the High Priestess in other tarot decks. She's the master weaver, waving illusion, the life span, alphabets and languages, and even magic. When she shows up in your reading, the we need to balance and work between past and future, physical and spiritual, male and female, waking and sleeping. Spider shows us how to weave today the dreams we want fulfilled tomorrow. She teaches the magic of creation, how to weave our own fates. She heralds opportunities for creativity and reflects three kinds of magic at play. The FIRST is the magic of creativity, reflected by its ability to spin silk, reminding us of our own power at this time to spin new creations. The SECOND is the magic of assertion, showing us that only by asserting and expressing our creative energies are we empowered. The THIRD magic is linking of past and future, death and rebirth, waxing and waning all reflected in the web's spiral. Here Spider helps us realize that there is a creative rhythm which we may not recognize, but which brings balance and polarity. Spider is one of the oldest and most amazing creatures, they have 8 eyes , but don't see very well. Tiny fibers on their legs are sensitive to the slightest movement. If Spider comes up in your reading, do not trust what you see, trust what you feel instead. All spiders spin silk, but not all weave webs. In the N. Hemisphere, most spiders encountered are web spinners. They don't get caught in their own webs because their legs secrete and oil and only the threads going around the circumference of the web have the sticky substance on them. Those spokes, moving directly out from the web's center are not sticky. This is a clear message : do not take the roundabout way of dealing with things, or you will get entangled. Be direct and straightforward. She weaves during the dark and out of sight, reminding us of how to express our creative energies, so don't be afraid to employ these energies in seemingly inaccessible area. Spider teaches us to trust subtle perceptions, showing that there is more depth and more activity beneath the surface. She encourages us to use our creative opportunities and by doing so, we take our Fate back within our own hands.

I toast and salute the common spider.

Regards,
Gypsy

Aw poor spider...I gotta admit, I'm terribly afraid of spiders and if I see one in my house (if they are outside I'll leave them be, aside from black widows) I usually kill it (unless it's a daddy long leg) but I feel terrible...I'm like "oh I'm sorry Mr. spider" ..it's awful..but I don't want to be bitten!

Edit:
I've decided that if I see any spiders in my house, I'll try moving them outside instead of squashin 'em. No more spider squashin for me....well unless it's a black widow O_O

"My, what beautiful blossoms we have this year. But look, this one's late. But I'll bet that when it blooms, it will be the most beautiful of all."
