That is good you disagree, it would be a boring old world if we were all the same. As for Gods and Goddesses I do not preach or pray or even acknowledge their existence. I do not need to personify human traits into an energy to understand it. I can feel the energy bubbling in my solar plexus and that is how I know it exists. I do not believe any God rules over anything in particular. It just IS. The more you question it the more confusing it gets and the further away the answers will get. You have to accept it and embrace it. There are bad people in this world, just as there are good people, there are good spirits and bad ones. No God is commanding them.

Me too, The more I question it the more confusing it gets.

I personally want to have any complex subject taken to:  it is this, and it is that, and do this and this will happen!  add 2 + 2 and you will get 4 LOL

I  used to be very afraid of the dark energies/negative energies. The ones within and outside of me. Resisted, ran from, avoided, tried to defeat them every way possible, at all costs, no matter what.

When the whole time the dark energy was something that I very much needed and would have helped me greatly in life..... My upbringing and lifestyle sure screwed me over on this aspect of life.

But no more, I now work with the dark and light. And am not afraid of the dark. I have a healthy respect for it and try not to cause or allow a problem with it...but not afraid of it. It is now to be accepted and understood and worked with. Although I am not yet very good at working with it. But this hopefully will come with practice.

I also don't try to personify it. Which is difficult because I keep  accidently/briefly slipping back into trying to talk to it and trying to figure out how to address it (with a title or name). Old habits are hard to break!

Just recently I also feel it bubbling up from inside...sometimes it is to much and I need to try to force some of it either up and out or push it into the ground through my feet. Since this is all pretty new to me I am not totally sure why this is so...and what to really do about it. LOL

Anyway, got a bit wordy.

Said all this to say Great thread. LOL

So much has been discussed on this thread already that I'm not sure I have much more to add on the specific points covered. But I would like to take part, so I'm going back to beginning and running with my initial thoughts.

When I first purposely started in Witchcraft as a teenager, I didn't have a distention between light and dark magic. I dabbled, poked, and experimented as I saw fit, never considering where it came from.

A few years later, I got swept into a religious phase where the idea of "good is from light" and "evil is from dark" was pounded in to believers. Fast forward a few more years, and I shucked the Jesus Chains, began to question light and dark.

Here is what I came up with, how I learned to recognize and embrace both dark and light:

* Energy is neutral. It has no intent, wishes you neither harm or grace.

* Light and dark represent opposing aspects of all nature:

physical (sun/moon), emotional (hope/despair), societal (dominant/submissive), instinctual (fight/flight), etc.

* All things in nature have opposition, which creates conditions for change, thus growth or decay. Lack of change results in stagnation; a void breeds nothing.

* The aspects of nature are neither good or evil.

* Witchcraft is about manipulating energy for change. To effectively encourage change, we must embrace all aspects in which change occurs.

* Good and evil, kindness and cruelty, love and hate -- these exist in our our intent, and our intent is what drives our will, which goes to manipulating the universal energy.

Clear as mud? wacko:

Leigh wrote exactly what I would write, so instead of rewriting it I will just quote.  Thank you Leigh!

However I will add that it is just energy, nature that is neutral.

There are also entities, of numerous kinds, which adds to the complexity of Witchcraft.  The need to know if what we are working with is just the  various types of energy that is everything and everywhere. Or a spiritual (for lack of a better term)  entity that isn't neutral.

I've read the term, "let there be light." I've also read, "let there be dark." Our planet isn't wholly light or dark at any time. It travels through the spectrum. Maybe that's what we're supposed to do.

@StanLily "Maybe that's what we're supposed to do."

Sure seems to be true.... looking back at most peoples lives (including my own), there are, for lack of a better word, Phases of darkness then light then dark etc. That often seem to have little relationship to what we want or do. They just happen.

Yes we can, and should and many people do everything they can, due diligence, wise choices etc. to prevent and mitigate the dark phases. But, it appears that for most, if not all people, some dark happens anyway.  And, the light phases back in; happens anyway.

It is hard to write this without it sounding negative or pessimistic. But I am not and don't mean for this description to be. It is just an observation of the dark and light cycles (phases) that seem to be .

I don't think I would recognize light, if not for the dark as a contrast. This year, well pretty much the years from 2016 on, it's been more dark than light. I don't believe that the dark will prevail, but I'd like to see at least a bit more light.
