Im guessing its what we consider natural magic? I love nature and consider pictures of natural wonders to be magic, can i post this? (had to ask before getting pictures ready!)

Midsummer at Pielavesi, Finland, 2004 - around 4 a.m.

This image sums up my love towards my home country. The summer nights when the sun never sets, the clean lakes, the endless forests, the summer cottages in the middle of nowhere, far from "civilisation", far from the everyday chaos of things. Places of retreat with no electricity and no indoor toilets. Places where you can get back to basics; return to your roots.

Where Your Soul Rests.

I will try and take my camera out this weekend. In the meantime, I offer a picture of what our then tour guide described as a "brownie hole", an entrance to the otherworld on the Isle of Skye.

Looking out from my balcony on the 15th floor I saw this being sitting on top of another apartment building. He left when the leaves fell off!

Living in the concrete jungle isn't always condusive to magick. Toronto prides itself on the number of trees and green spaces it has (for a city). There are a series of ravines running through the GTA. We have one right next to our apartment complex. If you walk far enough you can no longer hear the trains, busses and sirens. I find it magickal because it almost makes the city dissappear. You can find all manner of birds, coyotes, fox, and even deer. It makes me forget the modern world, for a time.

When you look at a sky like this, you forget what lies below it. It had rained incessantly for a few days and I was again taking pictures of the aftermath of a strong storm, from the 15th floor.

It was an amazing winter morning. The snow was glittering on the ground and the trees were frosted. I was on my way to work and suddenly just had to get off my bike and breathe in the magic of the moment. I'm no winter person, but that January morning was pure beauty.

Just wondering.. do we have some way to verify that the pictures submitted are indeed original? Looking at EXIF data maybe?
Not that I'm saying I distrust anyone, but.. it could happen. It'd be so easy just to copy a nice pic off the net.

Here's my first entry, and it's going to be quite different.

I modified my digital Fuji Finepix 2600 camera to be an infrared camera. (It required some basic disassembly but nothing major- mainly the removal of an IR filter the factory put there, as they do in most digital cameras)
Note, this shot is not a negative! This is how the world -nature- looks in the near-infrared spectrum.
I've taken several IR shots but this is the one I choose to show, I want to save my others for normal pics.

This was in front of my house, in October. It looks like a snowstorm hit!
Notice, if you will, that living objects, especially those with chlorophyll - the leaves and grass, reflect and re-emit the heat of the sun, and thus appear white with heat energy - appearing similar to a film negative. However, inanimate objects- the cars, the street - do not, and appear relatively normal.

BTW, just out of sheer curiosity, if anyone wants to see more, I have more IRs at my website.
They're not part of the contest though.

*tut*

Such distrust in humanity... :lalala:

But fair enough, I s'pose it could happen... if someone's really that desperate to win this competition.
