Kerry
Did anyone watch Larkrise to Candleford last night. It featured a pagan ritual. Queenie who is like the village wisewoman, who in the past 'tells news to the bees' keeps a book of herblore and customs. last night got the hamlet folk to perform an elemental releasing ritual around 'the witch tree' which was supposed to house the spirit of a woman accused of witchcraft years earlier. I love this programme, which is set in the mid 1800's about simplistic ways of the town and hamlet folk, its a little bit of heaven on a sunday evening. spinney
Sound interesting I watched one episode once where a ghost girl kept appearing to people and I believe Queenie did some sort of folk magic then, I will have to watch it.

Ancestral Celt
I was advised to read these books when applying to one particular witchcraft group. I was a little disappointed to see the ritual to set the witch free from the tree resembled modern wiccan practices, though.
Marion
I watch it too :) Took me a while to get into the first series but I wouldn't miss it now. It's perfect Sunday viewing...that, and Cranford, which cracks me up.

I don't think they would be classed in the days the programme is supposed to be set, as traditional witchcraft, just plain old fashioned country ways, the words 'traditional withcraft' would not have been mentioned. The point is that it is a great programme and it sympathises with old country values and customs if you watch the programme from episode one series one to series three episode three, which featured the ritual. But I anticipated that kind of reaction after I posted this observation, suppose some people like to take the magic out of the simplist things. I have watched the programmes from the beginning, the "ghost" special and the current series, and I have read all the books in the series by Flora Thompson. I had noted her books reflected the "old-fashioned country ways" to which you refer. What I was slightly dissapointed about was the programme makers not staying true to that feeling in this last episode, but then, when do they ever? Please accept my humble apologies for daring to have a differing point of view.
Tana
Think I might make an effort to watch the series. I don't usually watch much TV but I like to find a good series and watch it through all episodes. Thanks for alerting me to it Kerry! Jevne
Oh, damn . . . it sounds like those of you across the ocean have some great shows to watch. I've never even heard of this one before. Now, I'm curious. Is this a show that I could catch episodes on the Internet? Jevne
Cedar
Spinneyhex put the link to watch the show online above, but unfortunately Americans (or anyone outside Britain actually) can not watch it there! I see that Netflix has it, so if you have a Netflix account, you could add it to your queue. That's what I'm doing right now!
