i mean i know you cant stir your tea by itself or finding true love with a spell or whatever. i mean using the herbs and just the different stuff they were doing that was realistic.

I happen to love that movie. And I TOTALLY love that house and herb garden!!! And all those lovely planked-wood tables.... ****sigh****

What kind of witchcraft is it? It is a family of women who believe in witchcraft and who live a life believing in what they do. It doesn't have a name, it just is. And as far as Hollywood goes, yes, it is embelished, lol, but take out the glitz and glam of Hollywood (yeah, like we should ALL look like Sandra Bullock!!!) and that lifestyle is (or can be) a reality. Just do it. (God, I sound like a Nike commercial, lol.) Just grow your herbs, close your eyes, imagine what you want, blow on the wind, be who you are...

And as far as love spells go, I think that in love magic, the first thing the magic changes is you. So to quote from the movie, "Be careful what you wish for..."

Ah yes, it is a MOVIE there for it is embellished, but it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the house and the scenery! I wish I could live somewhere like that!! I also wish I had two crazy aunts like that-

Imagine my surprise when I ended up with twins .... I thought about the movie, and it kinda freaked me out :)

:sighs: i would love to have that house. it is a shame they built the architecture structure just for the movie then tore it down. they said it was built on an indian burial ground?...thats crazy. if i had alot of money i sure in the heck would get that house built.

Amas Veritas is just great;) I'm a fan of PM also. I would love to own a house like that even that that kind of house would look really strange in my neighbourhood;P Set designers made great job in Practical Magic..

About the life that sisters have, i think i would really like it;) combined with my interior designer work ;p

I've got to revisit the movie ... I watched part of it and dislike how the creators had changed the novel. So many of you love this film - i will give it another try. In answer to the OP's question - I'd say read the book, "Practical Magic" by Alice Hoffman. The prose is very lyrical and witchy.

Gotta say I loved that house too. I liked the movie so much I bought the DVD. Hah!

There are some extras on the DVD, and "intro to witchcraft" segment, if you will, but it's very Wicca based.

I love that movie. I agree with Grym that some of it seems influenced by Wicca.. but I cannot believe that fully. Through out the movie you see them curse, hex, and even smack someone with their eyes. They also kill a man.. and use necromancy to bring him back. They also banish his evil spirit.. so not sure. I don't know.. don't wiccan's believe that you should only send evil spirits from you not banish them? Like when the little girl gives that boy chicken pox.. Sandra tells her we do not cast or curse because she has given up the craft.. So I don't know..

As to the house.. I LOOOVE it! I love how it is set up. My husband loves that house as well.. and wishes we could build our own house because he would want it like that..

hmm build my own house...hmmmmm could be an idea ;)

WW83, I was only referring to the extra feature "Intro to Witchcraft" (or whatever it was called) on the DVD. That was somewhat wicca based, not the movie itself.

Though the movie did sort of show that actions have consequences, I believe that's true regardless.

And it still all worked out for everyone in the end.

This movie always reminds me that even know its hollywood, never forget who you are or hide it from yourself. To deny your talents is denying apart of yourself. I think it was one of the first movies to actually make me feel what i was doing was ok, on that note i have to say how much i hated The Craft "aftermath" and the hysteria it caused in my school. But when this one came out it made more of the people around me interested instead of afraid and i found some really great people and connections because of it.

I watch it every so often when its a quiet night and im alone, just to relish in it, its my fav of all time!

Ironically, Fairuza Balk, who played Nancy (the bad witch) in "The Craft" is actually wiccan and was at the time of filming!

Ever have anyone ask you about "Mannaw" ? lol
