i'm currently reading the complete art of witchcraft by sybil leek and i'm only three chapters in but it seems heavily based in the "old religion" im very new to this and i was hoping it would be a non religious read..im going to keep going though...has anybody else read this? (sorry if im spamming up the forums with questions about her, but this is my absolute best place for info and advice)

I would say read everything you can, and then see what resonates with you. Don't decide 'what type" you are until after you have had an intro, then keep what makes sense to you, and don't use what doesn't make sense. I have heard the name SL, but am not familiar with her. Almost every book will have SOMETHING to offer. I'm wishing i could tell you more, but most of what I read tends to refer to gods to an extent (even mythology) so I don't know any of pure spell-craft. But even spell craft works on you being able to work in 'other', so perhaps books that refer to other worlds would be a good way to start. I think there may be a 'good book" thread on here somewhere, but I don't remember. I started a relationship with other by 'jumping' and by connecting to streams of virtue/power/gods, but those things are also = to connecting with myself.

Someone else please chime in, as I'm sure a lot of other people have many suggestion I haven't thought of!!!

I've not read it but have her fortune telling book, I'd the her witchcraft book.

For some witches it is 'the old religion' or a religion.

Without infringing on copyrite what actually is it thats putting you off? I've not read this book so can't really answer you.

Ive also bought so many books where with in the first couple of pages Ive sighed and put the book down. Its hard to find decent books in the mainstream that don't focus on the threefold law and the goddess. I think Spinney is right though. Go for the folklore, history of your land or the land you want to know about, witchcraft history etc and you cant go wrong. The magick aspect will come to you, or we can help guide you, but once you have the basics you will be well and truly on your way.

thank you guys! she isn't speaking of any threefold law, it's just that i guess in her practice she does believe in a mother goddess and father god, and to me that's not what it is about...i have heard good things from non-wiccans, who i trust for the most part, so i want to push through im just having a hard time getting past it..but thanks again for the response! :thanks:
