For Smokers

I have no idea where my mother came up with this book (especially since she only reads sci-fi/fantasy) but it's an interesting read. The author is obviously a radical but I took the time to read some of the reports he cited and he's right!

Sounds good but cigarettes are going up $9 dollars a carton here come the first of month. Won't be able to afford the book!

You must mean a pack of cigarettes Rune. I too, think that the book costs too much.. LOL. I am not sure what they say the prices are going up to around here, but I have it in the works now to be smoke free by next month.

If it was your intent to swap the price of smokes with the book, then I thought that was pretty damned funny!!

It wasn't. I didn't even pay attention to what Amazon wanted! However, did some more digging ... it's available for US$23.99 here

Brief synopsis: many published "scientific" studies ignore certain aspects of the study, or distort the findings to publish politically-acceptable results. According to him, moderate amounts of nicotine (less than 10 cigarettes or 3 cigars per day) are actually beneficial for:

Senile Brain Disease

Alzheimer's

Parkinson's

Tourette's

and some others. Something I've known for years: it's not the tobacco itself that hurts, it's all the chemicals used to process the tobacco (like ammonia!).

He rightly points out that Japan ranks 4th in the world in the number of cigarettes smoked per capita and the 3rd in longevity as compared to the US ranks 11th in # of cigs & 29th in longevity.

So anyhoo, an interesting read. I still intend on quitting one of these eons - for the pocketbook if anything else!

Yeah, smoking is my one regular vice, although I have cut down quite a bit -- a pack will last me just shy of a week.

As for my irregular vices...

Tobacco in it's pure form has benefits, as for the cigs? Nothing could be farther from pure!!!!! They are a horror show, I know, I quit and then went back like a complete ASS, but will be stopping again soon I hope:upset: I hate that I smoke and am ashamed of it.
