The Secret Garden

This has been a favorite of mine since I saw it in the theaters in 1993 but I think it is a delightful children's story but also a really very Pagan tale of the lessons and beauty of nature. It is the one directed by Agnieszka Holland. I just watched it again and I just think it is so beautiful. If anyone wants a really pure, sweet film that celebrates nature...this is a great one.

You know I have heard of that movie and was impressed with the repsonse it got from many in the Pagan community (even those outside of the Pagan community) were very positive in their responses. I'll have ot check this out. thanks for the tip and the reminder :)

I remember reading the book when I was little. I think I owned a copy, actually. When it came out as a movie, I watched that, too. I think I've both read and watched it a few times...I used to love it. I distinctly remember though, that in spite of its innocent and sweet flow of plot and character - there was a twinge of an uncanny creepiness that gave one the shivers. It was interesting like that.

I never read the book, but LOVE the movie. I own the 1993 Warner Bros. version with Kate Maberly, Heydon Prowse, Andrew Knott, John Lynch and Maggie Smith. I would like to see the 1949 version with Margaret O'Brien.

Beautiful wild gardens, little birds, spirits and spirited children, and mystery with a brooding dark master in a gothic-type setting!--I'm there!

This is a film I had originally seen on cable. I stumbled across it in the sale bin (yes, we love to peruse them) and picked it up for my kids. My daughter must have watched it everyday we'd allow her to for months! Certainly a keeper

I read it when I was younger and I watched it not that long back.

Isn't there a sequel to the film, I'm sure my sister has got Secret Garden 2, but I might be imagining it, lol.

My little boy and I just watched the full length BBC version. We really liked it, even though it is 3 1/2 hours long. This one takes less of a magical view of the garden, but is more true to the book. I liked this version because my son and I were trying to figure out what the people with the heavy Yorkshire accent were saying. By the end we were pretty good at it.

Did you know that you can download movies at Amazon.com? They have something called the UnBox. That is how we watched our movie. It only cost us $1.99 and I think we get it for 7 days. Not all of the movies are that cheap, but you have the choice of buying or renting.

Anyway.... Loved the movie!:p

I only saw the film because I read the book first (which I love!) and I was really impressed with it.
