Christianity also got a beating for their beliefs as well...

During the first several centuries of Christianity, the Roman Empire would persecute them. By AD 60, rumors spread throughout the Roman Empire about the Christians, linking them to acts of incest, and cannibalism.

It was believed that these rumors and false beliefs surrounding the Christianity religion had more to do with the symbolic eating of Christ?s flesh and the drinking of his blood.

Also during this period, the Christians were known to celebrate a festival called ?Agape?. The literal meaning of this festival was ?love feast?. It was thought to believe that many Romans looked upon this as an orgy.

During this period, one particular Roman, named ?Minucius Felix?, fueled the fire of hatred and mistrust towards the Christians by stating that the initiation of new members were not only disgusting, but well known. Claiming that a child is to be covered in dough, to deceive the unwary and is set before the would be novice, who then would proceed to stab the child to death. Afterwards, they would then drink the blood, while also competing over the limbs. Since all is known of this, they are sworn to silence. On the feast day, they all would gather in the dark and perform shameful acts with each other.

Now as for a final twist of fate for the Christians, in AD 64, a tragic fire spread through out the Rome, destroying the majority of the city.

Since the Emperor at that time, (Emperor Nero) was not only greatly hated, but suspected to have been the cause of the tragedy, Nero shifted the blame upon the Christians. Laying claim that they were the ones who stared the fire.

This in turn, lead to the persecution of the Christians. At times the attacks were so severe. In some cases, they were torn apart by dogs and left to perish, also nailed to crosses and/or doomed by flames, and other horrible acts of torture and revenge.

Because Christians were hated and despised so greatly, they were often used as scapegoats in problems within the Roman Empire.

In fact, the Roman Empire would persecute the Christians right up to AD 305.

Shortly afterwards, it was Emperor Constantine who officially adopted the Christianity religion.

Bottom line is that while many Christians choose to spread false rumors pertaining to witches and what we do privately, it seems to bring to light in my eyes that we were not the first ones to have this form of treatment?and such is the cycle of abuse?it carried on from them to us.

Any comments? Let's open a discussion :)

This has crossed my mind in the past. It's funny how blame shifts and history repeats itself all over again. I'm curious what a die hard christian would say if you mentioned that to them. The irony alone is unmistakable. Somebody out there has a very sick sense of humor.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I read this is fear from them.

Fear that the same atrocities that were visited upon them would be repeated, so in order to prevent and avoid that they projected half truths and lies on another religion/belief system/way of life to put the attention somewhere else.

Sad really that so many people had to pay for someone else prejudices and ignorance.

I mean they had a golden opprtunity to preach acceptance, but instead perpetuated the cycle of ignorance.

You are very right Alpha. What makes it worse though, they were picked upon by one major group of people, the Romans, but they chose to redirect that persecution onto the world and every religion or culture until they had successfully, or at least in their eyes, eradicated it from the face of the earth. They took their three major teachings; do unto others as they would do unto you, love thine enemy, and thou shalt not kill; and grossly manipulated them into multiple atrocities and cultural genocide that spans across thousands of years.

I'm sorry I got a bit graphic there. My point is anything meant in good will can be taken and turned into something grotesque. All it takes is a little ignorance and fear to get the ball rolling, then hatred and revenge to carry it on.

I knew that in the begining of christianity they had problems being accepted. But I had not heard about the rumors of eating flesh and stabbing children. Interesting stuff. Too bad they could not learn from that.

very true on both accounts. I actually came across this information (ironically) in that one book of mine called : Sex and the Paranormal.

I truly love this book and when I came across this I was floored to say the least.

However, to me it does explain on some level as to why the Christians were so openly hostile towards us apparently from the start.

Sad really when you think about it.

Those that want to lead will make other leaders and their faith look bad in the eyes of their followers. It is their way of keeping their followers loyal. No matter what faith one is, most leaders ( the ones who want control and power) will undermind other leaders and their faith to keep their followers faithful. The followers are easily influenced by these leaders. So I see how this can be so. And how it all got started. It was purely a power struggle amongst the leaders. No one wanted to loose followers.

It's kinda the same as with Catholics when at first they forbided them to learn how to read (my foster mother used to pound this into my head when I married my ex-husband! He is catholic! LOL!).

Actually now you see pretty much the same scare tactics in todays politics.

So they made baby bread? (Baby's in dough?) Sounds kinda tasty.. sounds a bit like pig in blanket. Haha

It's sounds like the same old kindergarten fight over rule of the jungle gym to me.

But didn't the roman's have orgies even before this belief of the christians? What about those 'baths'? o.O

LOL! I just thought this was interesting and perhaps could give some new insight as to why some of them seem to react the way they do.

As a previous victims advocate I see this as a behavior pattern.

The Romans did have orgies, in fact there are many well documented cases. They indulged in every sexual excess possible. The Picts (from here) ate their enemies, and the Druids made human sacrifices, so xtians not alone there!

Humans cannot live easily with differing opinions and ways of worship or belief. In days gone by everyone with a belief system different from the ruling body of that moment was persecuted and either driven underground or destroyed. It doesn't change much.

Isn't it awful that none of these people learnt from the mistakes and horrors of others and vowed to change, instead they just passed it on - an eye for an eye but not from the original torturers but others that were different/weaker than them - bunch of weak willed bullies the lot of them - lol rant over :D

Seems that witches/pagans are the only ones that haven't carried on this ridiculous stigma attached to fear - yay us!!

Ok now my turn to rant! lol... Bear in mind that when Constantine converted to Christianity, in 312 AD Christianity became the state religion, with that came wealth, greed and the very people who were persecuting the Christians were now occupying positions of immense power and influence within the church.

Many couldnt give a shit about following the teachings of Christ, they just enjoyed being powerful... In the meantime you still wouldve had genuine Christians who didnt believe things like torture were ok, and probably hated even more being associated with the way the state were implementing how Christianity should now be practised..

This led to appearance of 'The Desert Fathers' who rebelled against the way Xianity was becoming an over affluent and powerful state machine, and Ill add, of mass mind control..

The Church ran the world at one point, but not everyone in the church was (or still is) a true Christian, and quite clearly there have been alot of psychos' over the years operating under that title.. these very people probably spending hours jerkin off to the memories of horrors they had performed on their victims including the so called 'Witches' they had persecuted... this is what has given Christianity such a bad name.. and how some of the horrors of the past and present have been allowed to happen..

Look at the tortures that still go on in the name of 'the state'..that most people, Pagans, Christians, Muslims etc... are completley disgusted by...

Are you sure about that?

Hello Oakbuchanan,

In many ways you echoe exactly what I would say!

Delighted to see so many open minds and not afraid to discuss...

As you see , there is much more to Christianity than meets the eye.

There are lots of Rumours ....therefore no definite facts

and that really Suits the people who want to Hide the Truth....

Gnosis..was the real goal..

The Jesus.....was a gnostic Essene Initiate.

This Is generally agreed at this stage by many sources..However Of course..the whole thing is a "hot potato"

Probably many of you are as i....escapees from catholicism...or some other form of Christianity (which is NOT christianity....see..We fall on the first hurdle)

To even Try and penetrate the mysteries...we have to remove all previous teaching...and try to start again.

If One was born outside of Mainstream christianity..

There are a number of other obstacles

For Example I Heard of a Wiccan I Think she was...who began to penetrate the mysteries.I mention her..because she had some First church of Wicca or somethging ..she was getting publicity and then "bam" got too enthusiastic..and converted to some Baptist or evangelist sect.......

and is now trying to convert all her "followers" to whatever that Is....Blessed Be (intended sardony(sp)...is that even a word????LOL!)

to come quickly to the point..

(again...QUTUB.....the point!...the singularity...the awareness...the mystery)

IF one can manage to force oneself.......many many answers are Hidden in the actual CORE....

thats why so many various parts of the writings were declared Heretic by the various popes...

Materialim wanted to keep the people under Yoke

(yes..its political as well....but In a very subtle "hidden" way)

If People are spiritually "free" ...experiencing gnosis....

Its very very difficult to distract them....

Think Jung...the collective mind etc.

I am deliberately putting as many diverse concepts side by side for you...

for example..I could point out all sorts of quotations..that appear VERY ordinary..but conceal truths...that Open UP the consciousness via the universal language

You cannot Learn that language yet you already "know" it.

Knowing IT...changes YOU as a person...that "transformation" occurs....

sorry..I Really try try try...to get the "vision" across..

suffuice it to say...that WHAT is percieved in the Profane world ...as Christianity...IS undoubtedly designed to PREVENT people from BECOMING Christians....

and in fact there are No "christians" per se......

because ...a Gnostic* Knows.....

*(witch, shaman, cunning person, Yogi, Adept, Buddha(bodhisattva) , Initiate.................)

Hopefully that is Clear?

remember

FEAR-CLARITY-POWER- DEATH..

remember in the cross..is written IN RI

Igne Natura Renovatur Integra.

VITRIOL?

Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum .

From Johannes Agricola.......

"Distill the spirit through the alembic, rectify it three times. Then take the salt from the Death's Head, add it to the first spirit and distill till the fixed salt also goes over the alembic. When this spirit is ready, beat the gold into plates, hang it in a glass above the spirit, and it will extract the crocus in the digestion. Then dissolve the crocus in distilled rainwater, filter it, and distill it by half. Now lovely brown, sometimes also red crystals will shoot in a cool cellar. They can be dissolved again, but it will not amount to much. It is indeed no radical dissolution, be it called salt or vitriol. It is nothing but a corrosion of the Body, to weaken it so much that it can be made potable. Distill the spirit through the alembic, rectify it three times. Put it Close to the Subconscious Mind,

and The Process begins

(Gnosis)

I could explain it so much easier in alchemical terms!

Its Hidden in the "word" of Christ!

FFFF,

Daniel
