I’ve been on an Apocalyptica kick lately. Continuing my theory that cello makes everything better, I just discovered they did a heavy metal/Wagner opera project. Cello: proving that even Wagner can be made listenable with the judicious application of three hot, half-naked, Finnish cellists.

Also throwing in their Hall of The Mountain King because while Grieg (unlike Wagner) was awesome on his own merits, cello is still better.

OK Duchess, I just stumbled in here because it was the top of the recent activity list and I have got to say that YUSS apocalyptica is fantastic. But I can't seem to shake the feeling that you're taking a dig at me through Wagner... I know this has come up in conversation before. Who doesn't like Epic Opera? Clearly there is some dysfunction here. Why can't we see eye to eye???  :P

Aurelian, that is really interesting I haven't heard of these guys before but they follow in the weird art music girl tradition that I do so love, Kate Bush, Bjork, Joanna Newsom.

I'll look more into them.

I have gone back to my baby bat years and more than a couple decades and am listening to the Cure - Disintegration. So Cathartic.

Oh Cit, you are the loveliest of elder gothy witches, but those who do not appreciate the genius of Bach, do not get to comment on Wagner.

At least we have The Cure.

OH? I do appreciate being an elder now, especially as designated by a refined lady such as yourself. However, is that how it works now? Hmm! Fascinating. Bach was a genius but I could never relate to such mechanical music. Wagner is stirring and sweeping and Tristan und Isolde is love in musical form!

Diplomacy aside: Bach is a stinky booger head. :D

It seems like we all still have the Cure anyway.

But back on topic. Mechanical? Mechanical?! If you cannot be moved by one of the few composers of the era who truly understood how to make the cello sing I...I can't even. I love you, Cit, but I can't even.

Fleet Foxes "Winter Hymnal" has been catching me all over lately... the most musically uplifting winter song I have ever heard! Just perfect. Though the lyrics hint at something darker, but, if you don't look that deeply, if this song doesn't brighten your day, I don't know what to tell you!

And, this song, from an album that I have been listening to and learning how to sing for a few years now; it is recorded all at 432 hz=A, which is the tuning that is said to be in harmony with Ohm and the Schumann Resonance, or the frequency of the Earth. Native style wood flutes are tuned to this as well. I found it through searching for music specifically tuned to that frequency, and found much more than I asked for. Highly recommend!
