Scott
Fans of the Depp-meister will not be dissappointed! If you *ARE* one of those and you are interested in the occult especially bibliophilia or the griomoire cycles this is THE film for you. Now the last thing I had seen Mr Depp in was "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" where he played the much missed Hunter Thompson. I loved his passion and his ability to make real for the observer, the un-reality of others without any real resort to jarring Brechtian sight gags. I was aprehensive of his playing a modern Faust role though I will admit. I must state at the outright that I am a fan of the Grimoires and of the virtually Lovecraftian notion of the right place at the right time provides the keys to heaven or to hell but still it seems I was one of the only people on the planet to know nothing about the film before seeing it. I was thrilled to see the Polanski name, reclined deep in the lush decadence that is his vision, drooled heavily over the libraries, cheered to see Langella being given a decent role, made wonderfully uncomfortable by the unfolding of teh all too familiar story type and was mightily impressed by the final sequences which I felt expressed quite beautifully the subject matter. If you have seen it you need to buy your own copy ... if you HAVEN'T seen it do yourself a favour!
AnjelWolf
This is yet another DVD we own and yes it was an excellent one as well. It was interesting enough by the plot itself...and was brought to life by Mr. Depp...he proved he can act in this film as well...which in some of his movies I wasn't all that clear on... juehoo
Jhnny Depp revealed another layer in this film, the subject would be attractive for you or I but really unless we were intersted in Johnny or witchood itself would we have bothered? No! Which is a massive shame because the acting is fine (not only Johnny) and the storyline was believable:)

Some people didn't seem to like it because of the witchcraft them...but to each his/her own. There are some of Depps movies that I am not the least nit interested in either for that matter LOL
eagleheart75
This was one of my most favorite movies. I loved the darker side of John role in this movie, it showed his versatilities as an actor, I felt anyway.

Guest 53rdspirit
Maybe I'm a little weird, but did anyone else laugh at all the Satanists running around screaming like a bunch of beheaded chickens after Boris Balkan took the stage, strangled Liana Telfer with her own pentacle and shoved her ass across the floor? :lmao::blobfire::lmao:
Scott
Greetings 53 Maybe I'm a little weird, but did anyone else laugh at all the Satanists running around screaming like a bunch of beheaded chickens after Boris Balkan took the stage, strangled Liana Telfer with her own pentacle and shoved her ass across the floor? :lmao::blobfire::lmao: Are you kidding? Awww HEEEEL NAW! My favourite part! MUMBO .... JUMBO ... MUMBO ... JUMBO ! Do you REALLY think he would show himself to the likes of you!? *Shudders* Yummy ! I mean Frank is awesome as a manacing villain anyhow ... but that award winning entrance, followed by the ONLY SENSIBLE THING TO DO (yeah it is .. really ... if you think you can get away with it ... that is what you do ... yeah it is! lol) and the best statement on modern black magic I have seen in a motion picture since "Spellbinder"? Ohhh pure magic - just fabulous .... lol
Whispering Willow
I swear at times I'm living under a rock! I had heard nothing of this movie until reading through the other posts here. We had found this DVD in the sale bin and picked it up thinking it looked interesting. Glad to say its a welcome addition to our collection. We enjoyed the subject matter immensely and I found myself watching it a second time the next day to look a bit deeper. I'll have to say I'm a fan of it.
