Droghon
Just read 'Haunted Land Investigations into Ancient Mysteries and Modern Day Phenomena' by Paul Devereux. I bought it as it was billed as an investigation into Ley's etc, however, while it obliquely deals with them it's really about his investigations into similar beliefs around the world, his theory being that much of what he terms 'Spirit Roads' or 'Death Roads' have their origin in old Shamanic practices which appear similar in many cultures. A very interesting read, though he writes in a 'Diary' style from one investigation to another. Worth reading, and he makes some interesting observations on the links between Old Shamanism and Witchcraft in Old Europe .. one village's Shaman is another village's 'evil' Witch etc.
AnjelWolf
Thanks for the tip on that book...I'll look for it. I've heard about the connection between old shamanisn and old witchcraft before. When you sit down and look at each side...the connections and similiarities are amazing :)
Guest wortmistress
Indeed, the whole idea of travelling the spirit paths in some Trad. Craft is related to Shamanism, being that the flight involved is Shamanistic in nature(i.e. often taking a "liberating" substance, trancework, pathworking etc). Talking of ley line books, a few years I was trawling a book-only Oxfam shop- well, you know how elevated their prices are, especially if something looks new agey etc! Anyhow, I came across a 1980 edition of Alfred Watkins"The old straight track" ( the bible of it's genre). The great thing was the daft old buggers at the Oxfam had priced it at 99p! Paul Devereux's books are great- I have one called Earth Mysteries by Philip Heselton, another good read!
Sandy
My best friend here in Germany is a Shaman, we get together each week and it is amazing just how much we have in common. Shes always concerned about the universal energy though and believes that doing things for other people when not asked to is wrong. She would never even think about giving someone a karma kick - until she met me *evil grin* Last week she was in tears because a particular person has been extremely vindictive over the past few years and had taken it too far. She couldnt understand why sending them love and peace didnt help. After I explained that she can ask the Universal energy to take over and decide what is best for this person - eg: send up a few "oi, check out this asshole", she calmed down and eventually agreed. She finally realised that with some people, love and light just doesn't get through, on any level! Some of the things shes comes out with can be really fluffy but then in a breath she is ripping open her thumb to make some incense with me to consecrate our friendship and business venture together with blood LOL Too Funny! I love people like this!
