What's the rest of the story?

I think Onyx is right, I can see that now after she mentioned it.  +1

"The truth about the world, he said, is that anything is possible. Had you not seen it from birth and thereby bled it of its strangeness it would appear to you for what it is, a hat trick in a medicine show, a fevered dream, a trance bepopulate with chimeras having neither analogue nor precedent, an itinerant carnival, a migratory tentshow whose ultimate destination after many a pitch in many a mudded field is unspeakable and calamitous beyond reckoning."  - Cormac McCarthy

I vote log. Doesn't look like an otter, I can see the bark & roots. Weird shape though.

Nature is complicated. There are no "rules" & it's only when we understand that that we can truly grow to appreciate it.

What's the rest of the story?

A friend of mine is a nature photographer, and she spotted this some distance away.  The strange shape alarmed her, nonetheless she focused her lens on it and shot, before hauling ass back to the Jeep.

It is a log, a fallen tree to be exact, but in the moment with the movement of the forest around her, I sure it produced a fight-or-flight response.

Reducing the focus and resolution and adding a little salesmanship could produce another legendary  Nessie or Sasquatch photo!

Good thing I'm so honest. ;)

Fooled me! Weird how the human eyes will try to make sense of something.

I made a more blurry print and hung it at work with an invitation to guess,  so far nobody has hit it.  I get alot of, "Weird...", and , "Is it real?..."  All in hushed tones.

Love it.

Egad...!

That's terrifying, upon first glimpse.

I bet that picture could "go viral" if you/your friend felt so inclined ;)

I told her the same thing.  First glance is startling, I can imagine she was disturbed upon sighting this.
