Does anyone know where I can find non-fluff information on Hel(a)?

Are we talking goddess, location, or both? I'm not well versed, but will keep my eyes open for info.

I would assume some good Norse mythology books would be a good start? Or were you thinking website?

Also, as far as I can tell the search engine on this site does not do three letter words. In other words, if you search for Hel you will get nothing, but if you searched say "Norse mythology" you may find something on Hel. Just a thought, you've probably already done:).

I'm looking for information on the spirit and both books and websites. I did a search on the forum and came across one good site but am looking for more information. I'm trying to figure out who a particular spirit is I met during a hedge ride. I only saw her hands. She's "ridden" me twice during meditation.

Ah I see. I've been playing "who's that spirit" myself. I have some books on Norse mythology, Ill give them a look over and see if any of them have much info on her.

Just out of curiosity when you searched how did you get around the 3-letter word thing? Did you just use a different term like "Norse" or is there another way. I ask because (don't laugh) but I was trying to look up Fae, which is impossible, but if you use "fairy" or the varient spelling you get mostly (but not all) people talking about the tinker bell like variety which was not what I was after. I feel like there must be a trick I'm missing.

I used Bela. Try "The Fae" and see if that works.

I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of The Road to Hel by HR Ellis Davidson, which may contain more anthropologically-based information on Hel/la herself as the book delves into Norse/Teutonic burial rites and cosmology. HR Ellis Davidson has done excellent work.

Ooooh! Aina, I will have to poke around and find it! Though I must say, for book-length reading I really do prefer paper. Already staring way too much at computer screens...

Not sure if I can put link or not so I'll PM you. I prefer paper as well but this will give me a chance to look through it and see if it's worth buying.
