I would say, first and foremost, be brutally honest with yourself about why you want to start on this path, and come to terms with your true motive. I know this might seem simple and a foregone conclusion, but it isn't always the case, and the conditioning and crap that's been woven into your psyche by whatever culture you are from may make you edit your motivations, or even lie to yourself about why you are attracted to "this". You are the only one that has to accept who you are and what you do, ultimately. Don't try to tell yourself you want a salad when you really want a fat juicy steak.
What is one bit of major advice you would give someone who is starting a traditional path
