Mountain Witch
Yup. Awhile back. It's an amazing place but for me, all the tourists spoiled it.
RoseRed
I just realized that this weekend is Memorial Day weekend. (It's early this year). I'd rather wait until I feel better/next weekend and skip the crowd.
Capsicum
I was supposed to make it out there about ten years ago, I was doing a "Haunted North Carolina" trip but never made it out that far (or if I did I don't remember...). Perhaps one day though, the mountains of NC have significantly more of a creep factor to them than the area near me, especially running through the stretch of I-77 out of Virginia and heading over to Asheville to another interstate that heads north into TN. The fog through there is phenomenal. If you're headed to that area make sure you check out the Tsalagi reservation!
bewitchingredhead
Yes RR!! We started a new Thanksgiving tradition two years ago and go to Sugar Mountain Resort for the Thanksgiving holiday. Grandfather mountain is right up the road. I'm really surprised nobody has ever fallen the damned thing to be honest!! If you don't like heights you won't be fond of it, but I loved it!! The bridge joining the peak is soon high and I love that feeling of exhilaration walking across it, especially when it's a bit windy! I have some pictures I can post if you'd like? RoseRed
I like, I like!!!!! That'd be awesome! Heights don't bother me. I asked the nurse yesterday and she said when she was a kid they had a rope bridge over the gorge. She's all disappointed that there's a sturdy steel one now and recommended we wait till next weekend. It seems people don't like crowds there but all seem to crowd there anyway. We were thinking about Ashland. I'd love to see the rose gardens at the Biltmore House. If anyone has ideas about what to do when we get there - I'm all ears. It's a point the car in this direction and lets explore :)
bewitchingredhead
I just uploaded them into one of my galleries on my profile. Does anyone know how to link a gallery in a thread? *Maybe this will work. I'll give it a shot. http://www.traditionalwitch.net/forums/gallery/album/195-grandfather-mountain/

It's a point the car in this direction and lets explore :smile:Ha ha, she sounds just like me!!! Asheville is freaking gorgeous and the Biltmore would not be a wasted trip IMO!! If you go the way of Grandfather Mountain area in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I'd suggest you take a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway up towards Linville Falls. It's absolutely gorgeous. Hard to get a camping site this weekend w/o advance notice, but you can still go to the Falls. There are a few different hikes and the first one isn't particularly strenuous. That is not the waterfall in my pictures though (I found a GORGEOUS quartz crystal in the creek by that mini waterfall in my pics). I'll have to go back a few years through some memory cards on my camera to find the ones of Linville Falls. We used to go camping up there all the time when we were kids. Then when we moved to this state when I was a kid, we started going out West/Midwest on family vacations instead of North/Northeast (like Yellowstone, Colorado, North and South Dakota, etc.). I've never been on the Blue Ridge Parkway but I've always wanted to. I'll def check out the falls.
Guest monsnoleedra
I mentioned it in a pm but here's a small extract of why it's called Grandfather Mountain. The original Cherokee name for the mountain was “Tanawha,” meaning “a fabulous hawk or eagle.” It was named “Grandfather” by pioneers who recognized the face of an old man in one of the cliffs. Many vantage points reveal different faces, so there is no one official profile of the mountain, but the most popular can be seen from the community of Foscoe, seven miles north of Linville and 10 miles south of Boone on N.C. 105. http://www.grandfather.com/about-grandfather-mountain/history-of-the-mountain/ But maybe you'll get to meet the ghost of the phantom hiker when you go up there. he he he
RoseRed
I've had an assful of ghosts lately. Don't you dare wish that on me! The plan is next weekend without all the weekend warriors on a 3 day weekend.
Capsicum
an "assful" of ghosts does not sound like a pleasant time
RoseRed
No, not really. The last couple years haven't been all that pleasant to endure. I saw a meme the other day that said something about 'sometimes when you think you've been buried you've actually been planted'.

It's good to know they came through as nice as I intended. I still want that damn amethyst!! That doesn't cost extra (the museum and animals).
