OK .. so we have a naughty forum area and we are openly discussing drugs in other topics... I have just been reminded by Dee that certain members are only 16 and are therefore perhaps not mature enough for these discussions.

Should the forum age limit be raised to 18? or are members happy at the current set level of 16?

Just an honest question - the last thing we need is to have angry mothers on our backs because they read something on here which may not be suitable for under 18s.

Cheers guys :)

No. 16 year olds are very mature these days. My point was not so much that he wasn't legally an adult but that he was still young and had learning/living to do. I believe our experiences aid the young to stay on the right path. It might be a good idea though that one of us watches over the younger ones. I've already adopted DP. I will volunteer to do that for the others. If their parents aren't on the path and they feel the call, we should let them learn. This is just my opinion.

Good idea yes of course we can take the youngsters under our wings .... but you did raise a valid point Dee.. I am a little concerned about under 18s joining and reading the forum.

Maybe we should make it 17 or over. It's less risque that way and besides because of the content on the site I am not even sure if we are legally crossing any borders in making it 16.

Ill chat to Brian later but those who have joined so far at 16 obviously can stay - I am talking about future sign ups :)

In our defense Sandy (including my own because I can be very naughty at times), we might be a little risque but what those kids post on myspace makes all of us look like old undersexed grandmothers! :lmao:

Now, I have to go find those firefighter pictures for Tana and Anjel (oh and Bobby2 of course!)

Well I think if a younger person (such as myself being 16) sees something they know they should not be viewing and if they are smart enough, then they would know to turn away to get out of that topic..I myself have done that on a couple of topics on this site..lol

Or in addition to what I have said...maybe you can have a seperate forum set aside for 'naughty' topics that are kept private until members reach a certain age such as 18 or 21.

not sure how easy that would be to close of sections until a member reaches a certain age ... It is an issue though and needs to be addressed somehow :)

I do understand that would be difficult. However, not to 'toot my own horn' so to speak, I am a mature teenager who knows right from wrong, although I also understand that is hard for you to know if a member is actually mature and not just saying that. I believe that the forum I spoke of should have restrictions that could be kept until one of the site Admins changes that for a member when that member reaches that age. The way to know when a member reaches that age can be realizes through the birthday alerts. I mean, I am just trying to throw idea out there..lol

True but only if the member did put in their age to start with. I am not so much thinking of guys like you because you are very mature for your age and have settled in here nicely, however, we need to cover our assess as responsible site owners to ensure that the content on our site is acceptable to under 18s in the Internet Law.

The fact that we do not charge a fee to join this site may be that we have more relaxed rules, but even so, some parents are extremely strict and I wouldn't enjoy having some sort of law suit just because we didn't check the small print. Even certain words according to ICRA determine whether your site is labelled adult (18+) or not ... and as I also run an adult site I can already tell you that this site is borderline.

This is a tricky issue....in theory, the seperate forum for more adult discussion is a good idea but in practice I would think impossible.

I mean you would then have people joining who just put in that they were over 18 anyway....

You could try that though.....I've been on sites where you have to click the box to say that you are over 18 in order to enter....I would think that would cover things legally

Of course...just thought....would it be 18 all over though...do some US states not have a 21 age limit for this sort of thing?

Well there is a way around everything .. even just a simple disclaimer might be enough.

We have had so many members joining it will be prudent to make sure that we, (myself and Brian) take responsiblity for the information on this site :)

Well truthfully my 2 cents on this is that it should be 17+ . I know DP is 16 and he honestly has been extrrememly mature on here...(more so than me at times LOL) so my vote is for future members make it 17+....I mean come on when you think about it yeah we have adult topics and such...but not every parent would be very pleased to know his or her teen is hanging out in a witchcraft site either...just my opinion here. But either way...DP stays LOL

Yes I originally thought that 17+ would be acceptable but it isnt. I have done some research and the content on our site is classed as adult which means 18 or 21 in some states. DP can of course remain here at our discretion *hug* but future sign ups will have to meet the age criteria. If they lie, they lie - but we cannot be held responsible for those members and it covers our asses fully :)

Hi Everyone, I've read the OP and the replies and I agree that age is definitely a concern to me. I really like DP and he has shown a maturity level higher than some adults I know, but the fact remains the he is 16. The fact that he has been open about his age is also exemplary. However, under certain ages either 18 or 21 is still considered a minor. And some subjects can be construed as contributing to the delinquency of a minor and prosecuted in a court of law. All we would need is DP's mother to record some of the posts to this forum and use it against us. I am not implying that this would happen in DP's case but it could in another case. Just my 2 cents worth.
