lavender meringues

2/3 heads of lavender flowers

Bash em in a mortar dish

Add them to your egg whites with a little purple food coloring, just enough so that they are lilac in colour

Make your meringues as you normal

I made lots of little ones on a tray

I baked them on a very low heat for two hours

Whip your cream

When meringues are cold put the cream on one /flat side. Then stick the other one on top

Saw this on tv and thought id try it today

Very yummy is my verdict

I do lavender sugar cookies with a tinted lavender coloured icing and some edible glitter..
Sometimes add dried blueberries and lemon zest.
Both or one of them.
I'm going to have to try these meringues next because I've grown weary of my sugar cookie addiction but not the lavender usage :)

Not that I actually have time for the next couple days yet, but it seems odd timing that I mistakenly bought an extra dozen eggs and then see this..
Would be awesome for Mother's Day gifts to give out but that is an ambitious goal right now.

Never apologize for adding food suggestions. Never.

.....Never.

Ha! Thanks Ravenshaw! I will bear that in mind ....

I would love to see some delicious food porn pics - will post some myself when I have them. Have to be careful with things like meringues because of the sugar - I'm on a very low sugar diet because it is bad bad bad for me. When confronted with sugary food I tend to just "feast my eyes." In the right frame of mind that is equally as good as physically consuming it. That becomes much more difficult however if I've done the cooking myself though, as the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

Yes sugar is for sweetness.... But used in certain ways it is poison. Edited by Mistflower

The egg white is good protein for starts, I wonder if there's a way to make a version with less sugar or a different sweetener!

yes, Erinn, there is. There are plenty of sugar substitutes and I've made meringues with them. They can have a funny aftertaste though. I get the best results with something called Sukrin Gold (you could google it). There's still a bit of an aftertaste though.

I made a pavlova at christmastime - the berries and cream did offset the aftertaste in the meringue, and no one noticed it except me (because I'd made it - perhaps I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't know there was no real sugar in it). It's good to use sharpish berries against the sweetness of the meringue and the creaminess of the cream.
