Mirrors and Windows

I have been thinking on this lately. How effective do you believe skrying in mirrors into your own being is? How well do you feel you can gauge your progress on your path by doing such things? They say your eyes are the window to your soul, therefore, in my mind they could be the key to seeing what you truly have lurking in there. I would think the closer you are to certain aspects of your being one would take on more physical traits of this being in your stronger connected areas and less so in aspects you choose to ignore or neglect. I think it would be a good way to get an in-depth true look at yourself, the higher you, and learn of paths you need to take closer looks at and adjust to balance your whole self. Thoughts on this?

child wants magic powers

I know that children have been discussed before, but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for...
(yes, I need *specifics*, )

My eldest is 5. Recently he has become *obsessed* with doing magic. I gave him a "magic wishing necklace" when he lost his second tooth and now he is pestering me constantly about how he wants a *real* magic wand to do *real* spells with. He becomes quite agitated over it. When I asked him why he wanted a magic wand, he said he needs "real magic powers" (but of course he doesn't elaborate...typical 5 yr old).

Any other parents want to help me out a little? I can't tell him magic isn't real because I've already told him that it is. I did also tell him that "magic isn't like Harry Potter" but he thinks what he sees on TV & hears about in books & our bedtime stories must be real (including all the witches with green skin, lol). I tell him lots of fantastical stories involving magic, flying and dragons...

What should I do? Help! He told me he wants to do a real spell and have it really, really come true. He wants to fly, he said--he wants magic wings. When I told him we could make some out of paper and he could pretend to fly, he got very upset. Then I tried the whole "you can fly in your dreams" thing, which he liked. But he keeps bugging me for that magic wand.

I really screwed myself with this one, didn't I?

(I know, I know, a public forum is not my blog...)

So far I've been doing a bit of a crap job on the "raising kids pagan" front--they learn about nature and the stars, and we do celebrate solstices and equinoxes, but that's about it--my SO is an agnostic who is not exactly comfortable with my being pagan (he thinks I'm Wiccan! Well, I *was*--I think he'd sh*t a brick if he knew I've veered off into "THAT" kind of witchcraft.) <--anyway, that's kind of OT.

Shaman bone necklace

This is another piece I finished today. I'm not sure I will be selling this beauty. I finished it and then fell in love with it.
It's center piece is the lower jaw of a mink, and it has 12 rattle snake vertebrae separating raccoon bone all beaded onto a copper wire. It is then strung on a copper chain. The lobster clasp connects directly to the copper wire on the right side.

The House of Kyteler

I was reading an oldie but goodie book. I'm share most people on the forum are familiar with Witches by Erica Jong and its beautiful illustration done by Joseph A. Smith My only complaint being that I see the words She to describe a witch a lot more often than he.

I often read Witches when I'm feeling lost to myself and I find the bizarre images comforting. I was reading the poems about the Witch Herbs. After I was done reading the prose I stumbled upon the famous witches section and I came upon an name that was quite familiar..... Dame Alice Kyteler .

At first I couldn't figure out why she stood out from Merlin or Joan of Arc...... then it came to me, memories were suddenly jogged of my witch grandmother telling me about my German heritage. she told me of a great great grandmother who was a part of german nobility who wrote in a diary about growing up in a beautiful castle in a town destroyed during WWII and when I asked what was her last name at first I thought she said Hitler , I asked her to repeat it again not wanting to be related to the most hated man of the 20th century .....and she pronounced Kitler but is spelled Kyteler.

After all these years of looking for the tiniest shred of a hereditary link to witchcraft. I really feel I've found it and it was hiding right under my nose this whole time. I'm not saying I am a direct descendant of Alice Kyteler, Kyteler being her maiden name, but If she was a real witch during the 1200's then she had to be taught by a family member. So I am wondering if there is any witchcraft connection to the Kytelers other than Dame Alice ? I I was also wondering if any one has found a protrait of the woman or her sons, so I could compare it to people In my family. have a suspition there is going to be a resemblance. everytime I look for a portrait I get some poorly Photoshopped photo of woman who looks like a cheap version of the wicked witch of the east right after the house fell on her. http://www.365photographs.net/?p=2287

Nepalese woman burned alive for witchcraft

According to CNN (not sure about posting links, so you can Google it or check CNN.com for more info) a Nepalese woman was accused by local shamans and her own family of practicing witchcraft, so they beat and stoned her, then doused her in kerosene before setting her on fire last Friday. She was accused of making another family member sick. Local police rounded up the suspects and are charging them with murder. One of them is an 8 yr old boy.
The article didn't go into any detail regarding why exactly she was fingered out as the evil-doer. Does anyone else have further details on this? I am not familiar with Nepalese traditions, so I am curious about the circumstances. Was there physical proof (poppet, drawings, carvings...anything)? Or were the shamans getting inside info from the other side? How paranoid must a family be to just accept the word of the local shaman and then torch a relative?
